P0001 Code - Fuel Volume Regulator Control Circuit/Open
Quick Answer
This fault code is stored in the engine control module when the system cannot correctly control the fuel pressure. Common causes include Faulty Fuel Volume Regulator (FVR) Control Valve, Fuel Volume Regulator Control Valve harness is open or shorted, Fuel Volume Regulator Control Valve circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P0001 Description
Normally manufacturers will support data parameters for actual and desired fuel pressure.
A number of issues may cause this fault code to be set such as a faulty fuel rail pressure sensor, a mechanical fault with the fuel volume regulator could cause the valve to become stuck. An electrical fault such as an open circuit in the fuel volume regulator on a system with a normally closed valve will also cause this situation. A short circuit on the control wire of a normally open fuel volume regulator will also cause this fault.
A fault in the fuel injector return system will cause the fuel pressure to be lower than expected. This causes fuel from the high-pressure circuit to leak back to the low-pressure circuit. A faulty maximum pressure relief valve will also cause this situation.
The high-pressure pump should also be tested to ensure it is capable of delivering the required volume of fuel.
What are the Possible Causes of the DTC P0001?
- Faulty Fuel Volume Regulator (FVR) Control Valve
- Fuel Volume Regulator Control Valve harness is open or shorted
- Fuel Volume Regulator Control Valve circuit poor electrical connection
How to Fix the DTC P0001?
Review the 'Possible Causes' above and visually examine the corresponding wiring harness and connectors. Check for damaged components and inspect connector pins for signs of being broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded.

pt cruiser check engine light came on, I checked oil and it needed a quart, light went off. light came on again, cranked it, then it died, and the code I get is P0001
-
Have a 2004 check engine light on and the code is flashing 1 it has a Cummins engine what's up?????
-
You have to check the the code with an OBDII scanner. Reading the code with the flashing light is not very accurate.

I know this is going to sound crazy but stay with me, What if i were to make a cat video; were all the cats bark like a dog. Wouldn't that be wild?

Code P0301 (misfire cyl #1) showed up on my 2007 Pontiac G5 at around 40,000 miles.
The car was parked outside during the last hurricane in Florida. After several dry weather days,
the service engine light disappeared. My diagnostic machine at home still showed P0301 preserved as history by the car's computer. I deleted the code from car computer's memory. Will see if the
moisture caused it to misfire in cylinder 1 or I need to replace spark plug or ignition coil. -
fuel pump? spray some ether wait 15 secs. crank , if it does replace the fuel pump. I know easier said than done !
-
My car is a 2000 nissan pathfinder 3.3 vgge. Replaced the fuel injectors. Pulled injector on cylinder one. Was still pressurized pulled the fuse under the dash not the relay under the hood. Complete misfire Evan after a different set of injectors, put the old ones back in ,new wires, plugs, distributor cap, and bug. Stil misfire white smoke out the exhaust, a lot of condensation. Head gasket? Only white smoke not from oil. Scanner fuel pressure regulator. That makes sense since I didn't bleed the fuel pressure before removing injector one? Or dose it?
-
Sounds like head gasket but blown head gasket is not common on the 3.3L Nissan engine. Fuel injectors are a frequent problem, but you have already tried the injectors.
I recommend performing a compression and leak down test, if all check OK, then check for clogged EGR tube inside the engine plenum.
