Step 1

Check for Additional EVAP Codes

Instruction Scan for all stored, pending, and permanent EVAP-related codes. Look for purge valve, vent valve, fuel tank pressure sensor, leak detection pump, or EVAP leak codes.
Expected result P0446 may appear alone or with related EVAP codes that help identify the fault.
If Pass Continue to Step 2.
If Fail Diagnose related EVAP circuit, sensor, or leak detection codes first if present.

Step 2

Inspect the Gas Cap and Filler Area

Instruction Inspect the gas cap and fuel filler neck area for damage, dirt, rust, or sealing problems.

If Pass Continue to Step 3.
If Fail Repair cap or filler neck sealing problems if found, then clear the code and retest.

Verify the Repair

If Pass Repair is complete.
