DTC P0016 indicates that the PCM has detected a timing correlation problem between the crankshaft position sensor and the Bank 1 intake camshaft position sensor. Check Engine Oil Level and Condition

If Pass Continue to Step 2.

Step 2

Check for Related Codes

Inspect Camshaft and Crankshaft Sensor Wiring

Check Camshaft Timing Live Data

Expected result Actual camshaft position should follow commanded position and return to normal when not commanded advanced or retarded.
If Pass Continue to Step 5.

Step 5

Inspect the VVT Oil Control Valve

Instruction Inspect the Bank 1 intake VVT oil control valve or solenoid. Check for sludge, debris, sticking operation, damaged connector, or wiring issues.
Expected result The solenoid should be clean, connected properly, and able to control oil flow.
If Pass Continue to Step 6.

Check Mechanical Timing
