U2098 GMC Code - MOST Communication Enable Circuit Malfunction

Quick Answer

When the ignition is ON, the Radio initializes the Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) bus by sending a short 100 ms low voltage pulse on the electronic control line (or MOST control line) connected to all devices contained on the MOST ring. Common causes include Faulty Radio, Radio harness is open or shorted, Radio circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code U2098 GMC Description

When the ignition is ON, the Radio initializes the Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) bus by sending a short 100 ms low voltage pulse on the electronic control line (or MOST control line) connected to all devices contained on the MOST ring. When MOST receive, transmit or control line faults are detected, transmit/receive messages will not receive as expected from the wakeup request. The Radio and the Human Machine Interface Control Module will then perform diagnostics to isolate these MOST faults. If the MOST control line is shorted low to 0 V for an excess amount of time, the Radio and the Audio Amplifier, if equipped, will set a U2098 Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC), and Human Machine Interface Control Module, if equipped, will set a U0029 02 DTC. At this point, the MOST bus will be unable to communicate until the shorted MOST control line is repaired. The DTC will be set when the Radio senses a short to ground on the MOST control circuit.

Discuss the causes and fixes for U2098 GMC OBDII Code

  • Only head lights, break lights, and signal light they started going out one at a time I have a 2019 gmc Acadia 2 heel drive. My question is I follow that designated harnesses and couldn't find anything damage.

    • The U2098 code on your 2019 GMC Acadia indicates a communication failure within the MOST (Media Oriented Systems Transport) network, specifically impacting the Body Control Module (BCM). Here are some possible solutions to resolve this issue, ranked by their likelihood of success:

      1. Inspect and Repair Wiring or Connectors in the MOST Circuit

        • Probability: 60%
        • Description: The most common issue is damaged or loose wiring and connectors in the MOST network, which could disrupt communication with the BCM. Carefully check the harnesses and connectors for signs of wear, damage, or corrosion, and make any necessary repairs.
      2. Replace the MOST Bus Interface Module

        • Probability: 25%
        • Description: A faulty MOST bus interface module can also cause communication breakdowns. If you find no damage in the wiring, consider testing or replacing this module.
      3. Update or Reflash Vehicle Software

        • Probability: 10%
        • Description: Software-related glitches can occasionally trigger communication errors. Reflashing the BCM or updating the vehicle software to the latest version may resolve the issue.
      4. Inspect and Replace Any Faulty Control Modules

        • Probability: 5%
        • Description: If a specific control module within the MOST network is malfunctioning, it may be necessary to identify and replace the faulty module to restore communication.

Since you've already inspected the harnesses, focusing next on the MOST bus interface module or considering a software update may be the most effective next steps. Let me know if you'd like further guidance on any specific area of these solutions.
