P2470 2016 Chevrolet Silverado Code - Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 4 Circuit Low Voltage

Quick Answer

The Exhaust Gas Temperature sensors (EGTS) are variable resistors that measure the temperature of the exhaust gas. Common causes include Faulty Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor (EGTS) 4, Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 4 harness is open or shorted, Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 4 circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is Moderate - service should be scheduled soon. The vehicle may still be drivable for short trips if it runs normally, but avoid hard driving and repair it soon.

Code P2470 2016 Chevrolet Silverado Description

The Exhaust Gas Temperature sensors (EGTS) are variable resistors that measure the temperature of the exhaust gas. Exhaust temperature sensor 1 is the first exhaust temperature sensor in the exhaust system, the following exhaust temperature sensors are counted upward from the engine outlet to the exhaust system end. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies 5 V to the exhaust gas temperature signal circuit and supplies a ground to the low reference circuit. The exhaust gas temperature sensor temperature information is used by the ECM during the exhaust gas particulate filter cleaning process. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will ve set when the ECM detects that the exhaust gas temperature sensor is less than 158 Ω for greater than 2 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2470 2016 Chevrolet Silverado Code

1. What does the OBDII code P2470 mean on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

P2470 indicates a "Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 4 Circuit Low Voltage," meaning the sensor is reporting a voltage lower than expected to the engine control module (ECM).

2. What are the symptoms of code P2470 on a 2016 Silverado?

Common symptoms include reduced engine performance, poor fuel economy, possible limp mode activation, and an illuminated check engine light.

3. What causes the P2470 code to appear?

The most common causes are a faulty exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensor, damaged wiring or connectors, corrosion in the circuit, or a malfunctioning ECM.

4. Can I drive my 2016 Silverado with the P2470 code?

Driving with this code is not recommended as it may lead to exhaust system damage, reduced fuel efficiency, or further engine issues if not addressed.

5. How do I fix the P2470 code on my Silverado?

Inspect the EGT sensor 4 wiring and connectors for damage, clean any corrosion, and replace the sensor if necessary. If wiring and the sensor appear fine, further diagnosis of the ECM may be required.

6. Where is Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 4 located on a 2016 Silverado?

Sensor 4 is typically located downstream in the exhaust system, near or after the diesel particulate filter (DPF), depending on the engine configuration.

7. How much does it cost to repair the P2470 code?

Repair costs vary but typically range from $150 to $300 for sensor replacement, depending on labor costs and parts pricing.

8. Can a dirty diesel particulate filter cause code P2470?

While not a direct cause, a clogged DPF can lead to abnormal exhaust temperatures, potentially affecting the EGT sensor's performance.

9. Does the P2470 code always mean the EGT sensor is bad?

No, the issue could also stem from wiring problems, poor connections, or a malfunctioning ECM rather than the sensor itself.

10. How can I prevent the P2470 code from recurring?

Regularly inspect and maintain the exhaust system, ensure proper DPF regeneration, and address any related codes or performance issues promptly.
