P2433 Dodge Code - Secondary Air Injection System Air Flow/Pressure Sensor Circuit High Bank 1
Quick Answer
The Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System aids in the reduction of hydrocarbon exhaust emissions during a cold start-up. Common causes include Faulty AIR Pressure Sensor, AIR Pressure Sensor harness is open or shorted, AIR Pressure Sensor circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P2433 Dodge Description
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) activates the AIR system by simultaneously supplying grounds to the AIR pump and the AIR valve relays. This action closes the relays' internal contacts. The AIR pump and the AIR control solenoid valve/pressure sensor assembly are in turn energized, the pump runs and the control/shut-off valve opens.
The AIR pump sends pressurized fresh air into the pipes/hoses through the open control/shut-off valve, and into the exhaust manifold. The extra air accelerates the catalyst operation, helping it to reach operating temperature faster. The AIR pump remains ON for a short period of time after the control/shut-off valve is commanded OFF. When the AIR pump is commanded OFF it will not run or be activated until the next vehicle start. When the AIR system is inactive, the closed AIR control/shut-off valve prevents air/exhaust flow in either direction.
The AIR system pressure sensor is used to monitor pressure at the AIR control solenoid valve/pressure sensor assembly inlet during the commanded ON/OFF states.
What are the Possible Causes of the DTC P2433 Dodge?
- Faulty AIR Pressure Sensor
- AIR Pressure Sensor harness is open or shorted
- AIR Pressure Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
How to Fix the DTC P2433 Dodge?

Frequently Asked Questions about P2433 Dodge Code
1. What does the OBDII code P2433 mean on a Dodge vehicle?
P2433 indicates a problem with the Secondary Air Injection System, specifically that the Air Flow/Pressure Sensor Circuit on Bank 1 is reporting a high voltage signal.
2. What are the symptoms of code P2433 in a Dodge?
Common symptoms include an illuminated check engine light, poor engine performance, rough idling, and potential failure to pass emissions tests.
3. What causes the P2433 code to be triggered?
This code can be caused by a faulty air pressure sensor, damaged wiring or connectors in the sensor circuit, a malfunctioning secondary air injection pump, or a clogged air injection system.
4. Can a dirty air filter cause a P2433 code?
While unlikely, a severely clogged air filter could restrict airflow and indirectly contribute to secondary air system issues, but the primary cause is often sensor or circuit-related.
5. How do you diagnose a P2433 code on a Dodge?
Diagnosis involves checking the air pressure sensor and its wiring for damage, testing the secondary air injection pump, and using a scan tool to monitor the sensor voltage and system performance.
6. Is it safe to drive with a P2433 code?
Driving with a P2433 code is generally safe for short distances, but prolonged driving can lead to increased emissions and possible engine damage if left unresolved.
7. How do you fix a P2433 code on a Dodge?
Repairs may involve replacing the faulty air pressure sensor, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, cleaning or replacing clogged components in the air injection system, or replacing the air pump.
8. How much does it cost to fix a P2433 code?
Repair costs can vary widely, from $100 to $500 or more, depending on whether the issue is related to a sensor, wiring, or more extensive system repairs.
9. Can a bad secondary air injection pump cause a P2433 code?
Yes, a malfunctioning secondary air injection pump can cause abnormal air pressure readings, triggering the P2433 code.
10. How can I prevent a P2433 code from occurring?
Regular maintenance of the air injection system, including inspecting sensors, wiring, and components for damage or clogs, can help prevent this code.
Discuss the causes and fixes for P2433 Dodge OBDII Code
-
2006 Dodge Stratus 2.4L engine with a check engine lite P2433 secondary air injection code. I have checked the air pump, air lines, relay and replaced the MAP. The air pump comes on and the relay works, The bypass valve opens and goes into exhaust. I suspect the O2 sensor.
-
This is not a common code for your vehicle model and year, but according to a national database of repairs, you may have a problem with the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. Start by cleaning the MAF and replacing the air filter.
-
Where is it. I have a MAP but haven't been able to find the MAF sensor.
-
Ok I think it's under the intake and out of view, that explains why I couldn't locate it. Thanks I will check it in the morning. thanks
-
The MAF sensor did it. The check engine lite is off for the first time sense I bought the car, Thank You so Much! I finally have a spare car for my daughter. Again Thank You.
