P2433 Buick Code - Secondary Air Injection System Air Flow/Pressure Sensor Circuit High Bank 1
Quick Answer
The Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System aids in the reduction of hydrocarbon exhaust emissions during a cold start-up. Common causes include Faulty AIR Pressure Sensor, AIR Pressure Sensor harness is open or shorted, AIR Pressure Sensor circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P2433 Buick Description
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) activates the AIR system by simultaneously supplying grounds to the AIR pump and the AIR valve relays. This action closes the relays' internal contacts. The AIR pump and the AIR control solenoid valve/pressure sensor assembly are in turn energized, the pump runs and the control/shut-off valve opens.
The AIR pump sends pressurized fresh air into the pipes/hoses through the open control/shut-off valve, and into the exhaust manifold. The extra air accelerates the catalyst operation, helping it to reach operating temperature faster. The AIR pump remains ON for a short period of time after the control/shut-off valve is commanded OFF. When the AIR pump is commanded OFF it will not run or be activated until the next vehicle start. When the AIR system is inactive, the closed AIR control/shut-off valve prevents air/exhaust flow in either direction.
The AIR system pressure sensor is used to monitor pressure at the AIR control solenoid valve/pressure sensor assembly inlet during the commanded ON/OFF states.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2433 Buick Code
What does OBDII code P2433 mean for a Buick?
Code P2433 indicates an issue with the Secondary Air Injection System, specifically that the airflow/pressure sensor circuit on Bank 1 is detecting a higher-than-normal voltage signal.
What are the common symptoms of code P2433 in a Buick?
Common symptoms include the check engine light turning on, poor engine performance, reduced fuel efficiency, and in some cases, a failed emissions test.
What causes the P2433 code to appear in a Buick?
Possible causes include a faulty air injection pressure sensor, damaged wiring or connectors in the sensor circuit, a malfunctioning secondary air injection pump, or a clogged air injection system.
Can I drive my Buick with a P2433 code?
While it may be possible to drive with this code, it is not recommended as it could lead to increased emissions, reduced engine performance, and potential damage to the secondary air injection system.
How do you diagnose code P2433 in a Buick?
Diagnosis involves scanning for codes with an OBDII scanner, inspecting the wiring and connectors to the air injection pressure sensor, testing the sensor itself, and checking the air injection pump and related components.
How is the P2433 code fixed in a Buick?
Repairs may include replacing the air injection pressure sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, cleaning or replacing the air injection pump, or addressing blockages in the secondary air injection system.
What tools are needed to fix a P2433 code in a Buick?
You may need an OBDII scanner, a multimeter for electrical testing, basic hand tools, and possibly replacement parts like the air injection pressure sensor or air pump.
Is the P2433 code specific to Bank 1 in a Buick?
Yes, the P2433 code specifically refers to an issue with the Secondary Air Injection System on Bank 1, which is the side of the engine containing cylinder 1.
Can a clogged secondary air injection system trigger a P2433 code?
Yes, blockages in the secondary air injection system can cause abnormal pressure readings, which may trigger the P2433 code.
Does the P2433 code affect emissions in a Buick?
Yes, the P2433 code can cause your vehicle to fail an emissions test due to the improper functioning of the secondary air injection system.
