Code P2128 Chrysler Description

The Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor is an input to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and used to determine the amount of torque requested by the operator. There are 2 pedal position signals in the sensor. Both signals, APP and APP2, have a positive slope (increasing angle, increasing voltage), but are offset and increase at different rates. The 2 pedal position signals make sure the PCM receives a correct input even if 1 signal has a concern. The PCM determines if a signal is incorrect by calculating where it should be, inferred from the other signals. If a concern is present with one of the circuits the other input is used. There are 2 reference voltage circuits, 2 signal return circuits, and 2 signal circuits (a total of 6 circuits and pins) between the PCM and the APP sensor assembly. The pedal position signal is converted to pedal travel degrees (rotary angle) by the PCM. The software converts these degrees to counts, which is the input to the torque based strategy.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2128 Chrysler Code

1. What does the OBDII code P2128 mean for a Chrysler vehicle?

P2128 indicates a high voltage issue in the Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch 'E' Circuit, which is part of the electronic throttle control system.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P2128 in a Chrysler?

Symptoms may include reduced engine performance, the throttle not responding properly, the Check Engine Light illuminating, and the vehicle entering limp mode.

3. What causes the P2128 code to appear?

Common causes include a faulty throttle/pedal position sensor, damaged or corroded wiring, a poor electrical connection in the circuit, or a malfunctioning PCM (Powertrain Control Module).

4. Can I drive my Chrysler with the P2128 code?

Driving with this code is not recommended, as it can lead to reduced throttle response and unsafe driving conditions due to potential limp mode activation.

5. How do I diagnose the P2128 code in my Chrysler?

Start by inspecting the throttle/pedal position sensor and its wiring for damage or corrosion. Use a multimeter to check for proper voltage and continuity in the circuit.

6. How do I fix the P2128 code on a Chrysler?

Repairs may involve replacing the throttle/pedal position sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, cleaning corroded connections, or updating/replacing the PCM if necessary.

7. How much does it cost to repair the P2128 code on a Chrysler?

The repair cost varies, but replacing a throttle/pedal position sensor typically ranges between $100-$300, depending on parts and labor.

8. Can a dirty throttle body cause the P2128 code?

While a dirty throttle body can cause throttle-related issues, it is not a direct cause of P2128. The code specifically relates to the sensor circuit voltage.

9. Does the P2128 code require reprogramming the PCM?

Reprogramming the PCM is only necessary if it is determined to be faulty or if a software update is required as part of the diagnostic process.

10. How can I prevent the P2128 code from recurring?

Regular maintenance, including inspecting and cleaning electrical connections and ensuring proper care of the throttle system, can help prevent this code from recurring.
