Code P2101 Infiniti Description

The throttle actuator is operated by the Engine Control Module (ECM) and it opens and closes the throttle valve. Power supply for the throttle control motor is provided to the ECM via throttle control motor relay. The throttle control motor relay is ON/OFF controlled by the ECM. When the ignition switch is turned ON, the ECM sends an ON signal to throttle control motor relay and battery voltage is provided to the ECM. When the ignition switch is turned OFF, the ECM sends an OFF signal to throttle control motor relay and battery voltage is not provided to the ECM. The opening angle of the throttle valve is detected by the throttle position sensor which is mounted on the throttle body. The throttle position sensor provides feedback to the ECM. This feedback allows the ECM to control the throttle actuator and monitor the throttle opening angle in response to driver inputs.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2101 Infiniti Code

1. What does the OBDII code P2101 mean on an Infiniti?

P2101 indicates an issue with the Electric Throttle Control (ETC) system, specifically a performance problem with the throttle actuator control motor.

2. What are the common symptoms of the P2101 code in an Infiniti?

Common symptoms include reduced engine power, hesitation during acceleration, the throttle not responding properly, and the vehicle going into limp mode.

3. What causes the P2101 code to appear on an Infiniti?

The code can be triggered by a faulty throttle body, damaged wiring or connectors, a malfunctioning throttle actuator control motor, or an issue with the engine control module (ECM).

4. Can I drive my Infiniti with the P2101 code?

Driving with the P2101 code is not recommended, as it may lead to reduced performance, safety concerns, and potential damage to the throttle system.

5. How do you diagnose the P2101 code on an Infiniti?

A proper diagnosis involves scanning the ECM for codes, inspecting the throttle body for damage or carbon buildup, checking the wiring and connectors, and testing the throttle actuator motor.

6. How can the P2101 code be fixed on an Infiniti?

Repairs may include cleaning or replacing the throttle body, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, replacing the throttle actuator motor, or reprogramming/updating the ECM if needed.

7. Is the P2101 code related to a dirty throttle body on an Infiniti?

Yes, a dirty or clogged throttle body can restrict airflow and cause the P2101 code to be triggered.

8. How much does it cost to fix the P2101 code on an Infiniti?

Repair costs vary, but throttle body cleaning may cost $100-$200, while throttle body replacement can range from $300-$700, depending on labor and parts.

9. Can a dead battery cause the P2101 code on an Infiniti?

A weak or dead battery may indirectly cause throttle control issues by disrupting the voltage supply to the throttle actuator motor, potentially triggering the P2101 code.

10. Does the P2101 code require ECM replacement on an Infiniti?

ECM replacement is rare and typically only needed if all other components have been ruled out and the ECM is confirmed to be faulty.
