Code P2068 2017 GMC Sierra Description

Diesel Engine
The primary fuel level sensor and the secondary fuel level sensor change resistance based on fuel level. The Fuel Pump Driver Control Module monitors the signal circuits of the primary fuel level sensor and the secondary fuel level sensor and sends the signal information to the Engine Control Module (ECM) for all further handling. The ECM uses this value in order to determine the fuel level. When the fuel tank is full, the resistances of both fuel level sensors are low, and the ECM senses a low signal voltage on both the signal circuits of the primary fuel level sensor and the secondary fuel level sensor. When the fuel tank is empty, the resistances of the fuel level sensors are high, and the ECM senses a high signal voltage. The ECM uses the signal circuits of the primary fuel level sensor and the secondary fuel level sensor in order to calculate the percentage of remaining fuel in the tank. The ECM sends the fuel level percentage via the serial data circuit to the instrument cluster in order to control the fuel gauge.

The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set if the ECM detects the signal voltage is greater than 4.7 V.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2068 2017 GMC Sierra Code

What does the OBD-II code P2068 mean on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

P2068 indicates that the fuel level sensor 2 circuit is experiencing high voltage, typically signaling an issue with the secondary fuel level sensor or its related wiring.

What are the symptoms of code P2068 on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

Common symptoms include inaccurate fuel gauge readings, a check engine light, and, in rare cases, improper fuel system performance.

What causes the P2068 code on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

Possible causes include a faulty fuel level sensor, damaged or corroded wiring, a poor electrical connection, or issues with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

How can I diagnose the P2068 code on my 2017 GMC Sierra?

Start by inspecting the wiring and connectors near the fuel level sensor for damage, corrosion, or looseness. Use a multimeter to test voltage and continuity of the circuit.

Can I drive my 2017 GMC Sierra with the P2068 code active?

While the truck may still be drivable, the inaccurate fuel gauge readings can make it difficult to determine fuel levels, potentially leading to unexpected fuel depletion.

How do I fix the P2068 code on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

Repairs may involve replacing the fuel level sensor, fixing or replacing damaged wiring, cleaning corroded connectors, or reprogramming the PCM if necessary.

How much does it cost to repair the P2068 code on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

Repair costs vary, but replacing a fuel level sensor typically ranges from $200 to $500, including parts and labor. Wiring repairs may cost less.

Will clearing the P2068 code solve the problem on my 2017 GMC Sierra?

Clearing the code without addressing the underlying issue will temporarily reset the check engine light, but the code will likely return.

Is the P2068 code related to the primary fuel level sensor on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

No, P2068 specifically points to issues with the secondary fuel level sensor, commonly found in dual-tank or large-capacity systems.

Do I need any special tools to fix the P2068 code on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

Basic tools like a multimeter and OBD-II scanner are typically required for diagnosing and fixing this code.
