Code P2032 2016 Chevrolet Silverado Description

The Exhaust Gas Temperature sensors (EGTS) are variable resistors that measure the temperature of the exhaust gas. Exhaust temperature sensor 1 is the first exhaust temperature sensor in the exhaust system, the following exhaust temperature sensors are counted upward from the engine outlet to the exhaust system end. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies 5 V to the exhaust gas temperature signal circuit and supplies a ground to the low reference circuit. The exhaust gas temperature sensor temperature information is used by the ECM during the exhaust gas particulate filter cleaning process. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will ve set when the ECM detects that the exhaust gas temperature sensor is less than 158 Ω for greater than 2 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2032 2016 Chevrolet Silverado Code

What does the OBDII code P2032 mean on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

The P2032 code indicates that the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Sensor 2 is reporting a low voltage signal, which may mean the sensor is not functioning properly or the circuit is experiencing an issue.

What are the symptoms of code P2032 on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

Common symptoms include an illuminated check engine light, reduced fuel efficiency, poor engine performance, or the vehicle entering limp mode in some cases.

What causes the P2032 code to appear?

Possible causes include a faulty EGT sensor, damaged wiring or connectors, corrosion in the circuit, a short in the wiring, or issues with the engine control module (ECM).

Can I drive my 2016 Chevrolet Silverado with the P2032 code?

While the vehicle may still be driveable, driving with this code could lead to increased emissions, reduced performance, and potential damage to the exhaust or aftertreatment system.

Where is Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 2 located?

On a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado, EGT Sensor 2 is typically located in the exhaust system downstream of the diesel particulate filter (DPF) or catalytic converter.

How do I diagnose the P2032 code on my Silverado?

Start by inspecting the wiring and connectors for damage or corrosion, then use a multimeter to test the sensor’s voltage. A scan tool can also help monitor live data from the sensor to confirm its operation.

How do I fix the P2032 code on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

Repairs may include replacing the faulty EGT sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring or connectors, or updating/reprogramming the ECM if necessary.

How much does it cost to fix a P2032 code?

Repair costs can vary, but replacing the EGT sensor typically ranges from $150 to $300, including parts and labor. Wiring repairs may cost less if no sensor replacement is needed.

Can a faulty EGT sensor damage my engine or exhaust system?

Yes, a faulty EGT sensor can lead to improper exhaust system operation, potentially causing damage to components like the DPF, catalytic converter, or turbocharger over time.

Do I need a professional mechanic to fix the P2032 code?

While some experienced DIYers can handle sensor replacement, diagnosing wiring or ECM issues may require advanced tools and expertise, so a professional mechanic is recommended in those cases.
