Code P1899 Acura Description

The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) drive pulley pressure control solenoid valve and the CVT driven pulley pressure control solenoid valve control hydraulic pressure. The CVT drive pulley pressure control solenoid valve and the CVT driven pulley pressure control solenoid valve is controlled by duty cycle output. The spool in the CVT drive pulley pressure control solenoid valve and the CVT driven pulley pressure control solenoid valve moves the valve according to the current and produce hydraulic pressure in proportion to the current. The powertrain control module (PCM) measures the current that passes through the CVT drive pulley pressure control solenoid valve and the CVT driven pulley pressure control solenoid valve and uses feedback control to compensate for the difference between the measured current and the commanded one. To shift the transmission properly, the PCM outputs a drive/driven pulley oil pressure control signal. If the pulley ratio is overdrive while the vehicle is stopped with the forward clutch engaged, the estimated input torque when starting is a specified value or less, and belt slippage does not occur when driving, the PCM detects a CVT drive pulley pressure control solenoid valve stuck OFF failure or a CVT driven pulley pressure control solenoid valve stuck ON and stores a DTC.

Frequently Asked Questions about P1899 Acura Code

What does the OBDII code P1899 mean for an Acura?

The code P1899 indicates that the CVT Drive Pulley Pressure Control Valve is stuck either OFF or ON, affecting the transmission's ability to properly shift and regulate pressure.

What are common symptoms of the P1899 code on an Acura?

Symptoms include erratic shifting, slipping during acceleration, reduced fuel efficiency, and the check engine light being illuminated.

What causes the CVT Drive Pulley Pressure Control Valve to get stuck?

Causes can include debris or contamination in the transmission fluid, internal valve wear, solenoid failure, or electrical issues like damaged wiring or connectors.

Can driving with the P1899 code damage the vehicle?

Yes, driving with this code can lead to further transmission damage, reduced performance, and potential breakdowns if not addressed promptly.

How can I diagnose the P1899 code?

Diagnosis involves scanning the vehicle for codes, inspecting the valve and solenoid, checking wiring and connectors, and possibly testing the transmission fluid for contamination.

What repairs are typically needed to fix the P1899 code?

Repairs may include cleaning or replacing the pressure control valve, replacing the solenoid, flushing the transmission fluid, or repairing wiring and connectors.

Is a transmission fluid change enough to resolve the P1899 code?

While a fluid change might help if contamination is the issue, additional repairs may be needed if the valve or solenoid is damaged or stuck.

Can a faulty solenoid cause the P1899 code?

Yes, a malfunctioning solenoid can prevent the pressure control valve from operating properly, leading to this code.

How much does it cost to repair the P1899 code on an Acura?

Repair costs can vary widely but may range from $200 to $1,000 depending on whether the valve, solenoid, or other transmission components need replacement.

Can the P1899 code be prevented?
