Code P1633 MINI Description

The Electromotive Throttle Actuator is attached to the intake plenum and adjusts the throttle valve. The air supply to the engine is modified by adjusting the throttle valve. The Digital Motor Electronics (DME) calculates the position of the throttle valve using the following information: Position of the accelerator pedal and Torque request from other control units.
The Digital Motor Electronics opens or closes the electromotive throttle actuator electrically. The throttle valve opening angle in the electromotive throttle actuator is monitored by 2 hall effect sensors. The throttle valve is moved by an electric actuator motor. This servomotor is actuated by a pulse-width modulated signal with a frequency of 1000 Hz.
The Digital Motor Electronics diagnosis monitors whether the throttle valve is in the emergency running position during the de-energized state. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is detected if during the adaptation the emergency running position values are identified to be less than 1.8% or greater than 16%.

Frequently Asked Questions about P1633 MINI Code

1. What does the OBDII code P1633 mean on a MINI?

P1633 indicates that the throttle valve adaptation limp-home position is unknown, meaning the engine control module (ECM) cannot determine the throttle's position for emergency operation.

2. What are the common symptoms of a P1633 code?

Symptoms include reduced engine power, the throttle not responding properly, the vehicle entering limp mode, and the check engine light illuminating.

3. What causes the P1633 code on a MINI?

Common causes include a faulty throttle body, a malfunctioning throttle position sensor, a wiring issue, or a problem with the engine control module (ECM).

4. Can a dirty throttle body cause the P1633 code?

Yes, carbon buildup or debris in the throttle body can prevent proper adaptation and trigger the P1633 code.

5. How is the P1633 code diagnosed?

Diagnosis typically involves inspecting the throttle body, checking the throttle position sensor, testing the wiring and connectors, and verifying the ECM is functioning properly.

6. Is it safe to drive with the P1633 code active?

Driving with the P1633 code is not recommended, as the vehicle may enter limp mode, limiting power and potentially creating unsafe driving conditions.

7. How can I fix the P1633 code on my MINI?

Repairs may include cleaning or replacing the throttle body, fixing damaged wiring, replacing the throttle position sensor, or reprogramming the ECM.

8. Can a weak battery cause the P1633 code?

Yes, a weak or failing battery can disrupt the ECM's ability to adapt the throttle valve, potentially triggering the P1633 code.

9. Do I need to reprogram the ECM after fixing the P1633 issue?

In some cases, the ECM may need to be reset or reprogrammed to properly adapt to the repaired throttle system.

10. How much does it cost to repair a P1633 code on a MINI?
