i changed valve cover gasket on 97 nissan maxima afterwards check engine light came on.p1401.it sounds like it's running on 5 cylinders.p1401 says E G R valve.

Please double check the valve cover installation, either you have a loose hose or the EGR temperature sensor is disconnected. The new valve cover gasket has nothing to do with the EGR system.
