P1355 MINI Code - Misfire Cylinder 7 With Fuel Cut-Off

Quick Answer

As part of the CARB/OBD regulations, the Engine Control Module (ECM) must determine if a misfire is occurring and also identify the specific cylinder(s) and the severity of the misfire event and whether it is emissions relevant or catalyst damaging. Common causes include Faulty Spark Plug, Faulty Ignition Coil, Intake vacuum leak. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P1355 MINI Description

As part of the CARB/OBD regulations, the Engine Control Module (ECM) must determine if a misfire is occurring and also identify the specific cylinder(s) and the severity of the misfire event and whether it is emissions relevant or catalyst damaging. In order to accomplish these tasks, the control module monitors the crankshaft for acceleration losses during firing segments of each cylinder based on firing order.
The misfire/engine roughness calculation is derived from the differences in the period duration (T) of individual increment gear segments. Each segment period consists of an angular range of 120° crank angle that starts 78° before Top Dead Center (TDC).
If the expected period duration is greater than the permissible value a misfire fault for the particular cylinder is stored in the fault memory of the ECM. Depending on the level of misfire rate measured the control unit will illuminate the "Service Engine Soon" light, may cutoff fuel to the particular cylinder and may switch lambda operation to open-loop. All misfire faults are weighted to determine if the misfire is emissions relevant or catalyst damaging.

Frequently Asked Questions about P1355 MINI Code

1. What does the OBDII code P1355 mean on a MINI?

P1355 indicates a misfire in cylinder 7 with fuel cut-off, typically caused by issues like ignition coil failure, spark plug problems, or fuel delivery issues.

2. What are common symptoms of the P1355 code on a MINI?

Symptoms include rough idling, reduced engine performance, poor fuel economy, hesitation during acceleration, and the check engine light turning on.

3. What causes a P1355 code to appear in a MINI?

Common causes include a faulty ignition coil, worn or damaged spark plugs, issues with the fuel injector, vacuum leaks, or a problem with the engine control module (ECM).

4. Can I drive my MINI with a P1355 code?

Driving with a P1355 code is not recommended, as it can lead to further engine damage or catalytic converter failure due to prolonged misfiring.

5. How can I diagnose the P1355 code in my MINI?

To diagnose P1355, inspect the ignition coil, spark plug, and fuel injector for cylinder 7. Conduct a compression test and check for vacuum leaks or ECM faults.

6. How do I fix the P1355 code on a MINI?

Fixes may include replacing the faulty ignition coil, installing new spark plugs, cleaning or replacing the fuel injector, repairing vacuum leaks, or reprogramming the ECM.

7. How much does it cost to repair a P1355 code on a MINI?

Repair costs vary, but replacing an ignition coil typically costs $100-$300, while spark plug replacement may range from $50-$150. Fuel injector repairs can cost $200-$500.

8. Can a dirty fuel injector cause a P1355 code?

Yes, a clogged or malfunctioning fuel injector can lead to improper fuel delivery and cause a misfire in cylinder 7.

9. Will resetting the check engine light fix the P1355 code?

Resetting the light clears the code temporarily, but it won’t resolve the underlying issue causing the misfire. Repairs are required to prevent the code from returning.

10. How can I prevent the P1355 code from occurring again?

Regular maintenance, including timely replacement of spark plugs, ignition coils, and fuel system cleaning, can help prevent misfire-related codes like P1355.
