Discuss the causes and fixes for P1225 Volkswagen OBDII Code

  • I own a 2000 VW Beetle with a 1.8 Turbo. I just started having issues about three weeks ago while driving the car it would run fine and then out of the blue it would die, would start right back up again and die again, and so on. Hooked up my code reader to it and it spit out about 11 "Short to ground" codes for the fuel injectors, O2 sensor, ect. I had just replaced the fuel pump relay about a month ago for the 9th time in 10 years and figured I had gotten a bad one so bought another this morning and installed it. I reset the pcm and took the car out for a drive, ran out for about 15 minutes and the service engine light came on again. Once I got it back home I hooked my reader back up to the car only to find all the short to ground codes had returned, I'm at a loss now. I found both of the grounding points (Under the battery box and on the drivers side of the engine), checked and cleaned both after finding no loose or broken wires, so not sure where to go now. Would love to hear some input if anyone especially a mechanic has any ideas seeing I've eliminated the fuel pump relay. I did have an issue with the one and only 02 sensor saying there was an issue with it, could that be causing all of this????
