Code P1172 Honda Description

The Air/Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor 1 is installed in the exhaust system and detects oxygen content in the exhaust gas. The A/F sensor transmits output voltage to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If a malfunction causes the A/F Sensor (Sensor 1) signal to the PCM to deviate from the normal control area, the A/F Sensor (Sensor 1) may still become active after the engine starts, but the air/fuel feedback does not start normally, and the emissions deteriorate. When the A/F Sensor (Sensor 1) output is out of the normal area, and this condition continues after the A/F Sensor (Sensor 1) is active, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).

  • What model and year is your Honda? you may have to have a valve adjustment. If the valves are not adjusted properly, the engine may have a misfire and trigger air/fuel ratio codes.

  • My 2017 Honda CR-V Touring is throwing codes P1172, P2A00, PO134, and UO199. Bank 1, Sensor 1 is affected. I also recently got a new battery and had loss of power when installing it. Some of the systems are incomplete as to readiness; however this one is listed as Complete and Fail.

    The problems started in the severe cold and after spinning tires to get up a hill in the ice and snow. (I don’t know if that’s relevant or not.)
