Code P1147 2004 Infiniti G35 Description

The Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 (HO2S) (Rear O2 Sensor), after three way catalyst (manifold), monitors the oxygen level in the exhaust gas on each bank. For optimum catalyst operation, the air fuel mixture (air-fuel ratio) must be maintained near the ideal stoichiometric ratio. The HO2S output voltage changes suddenly in the vicinity of the stoichiometric ratio. The Engine Control Module (ECM) adjusts the fuel injection time so that the air-fuel ratio is nearly stoichiometric. The HO2S generates a voltage between 0.1 and 0.9 V in response to oxygen in the exhaust gas. If the oxygen in the exhaust gas increases, the air-fuel ratio becomes Lean. The ECM interprets Lean when the HO2S voltage is below 0.45 V. If the oxygen in the exhaust gas decreases, the air-fuel ratio becomes Rich. The ECM interprets Rich when the HO2S voltage is above 0.45 V.

Frequently Asked Questions about P1147 2004 Infiniti G35 Code

1. What does OBDII code P1147 mean for a 2004 Infiniti G35?

P1147 indicates that the heated oxygen sensor 2 (HO2S2) on Bank 1 has exceeded its maximum voltage threshold, suggesting a potential issue with the sensor or related systems.

2. What are the symptoms of code P1147 in a 2004 Infiniti G35?

Common symptoms include poor fuel economy, rough idling, reduced engine performance, and the check engine light being illuminated.

3. What causes code P1147 to appear on a 2004 Infiniti G35?

Possible causes include a faulty Bank 1, Sensor 2 oxygen sensor, damaged wiring or connectors, exhaust leaks, or a malfunctioning engine control module (ECM).

4. Can I drive my 2004 Infiniti G35 with code P1147?

While the car may still drive, it's not recommended to ignore the issue because it can lead to poor performance, higher emissions, and potential damage to other components.

5. How do I diagnose code P1147 on a 2004 Infiniti G35?

Diagnosis involves checking the oxygen sensor wiring and connectors for damage, testing the sensor's voltage output with a multimeter, and inspecting for exhaust leaks.

6. How do I fix code P1147 on my 2004 Infiniti G35?

Repairs may include replacing the Bank 1, Sensor 2 oxygen sensor, fixing damaged wiring, sealing exhaust leaks, or reprogramming or replacing the ECM if necessary.

7. How much does it cost to fix code P1147 on a 2004 Infiniti G35?

The cost varies depending on the repair, but replacing an oxygen sensor typically ranges from $150 to $300, including parts and labor.

8. Is code P1147 related to emissions issues?

Yes, a faulty oxygen sensor can cause improper air-fuel mixture readings, leading to increased emissions and potentially failing an emissions test.

9. What is the role of Bank 1, Sensor 2 on a 2004 Infiniti G35?

Bank 1, Sensor 2 is the downstream oxygen sensor that monitors the efficiency of the catalytic converter and helps maintain proper emissions.
