P0507 2005 Infiniti G35 Code - Idle Speed Control System RPM Higher Than Expected

Quick Answer

The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls the engine idle speed to a specified level through the fine adjustment of the air, which is let into the intake manifold, by operating the electric throttle control actuator. Common causes include Dirty throttle body, Electric throttle control actuator misadjusted or damaged, Faulty Electric throttle control actuator. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P0507 2005 Infiniti G35 Description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls the engine idle speed to a specified level through the fine adjustment of the air, which is let into the intake manifold, by operating the electric throttle control actuator. The operating of the throttle valve is varied to allow for optimum control of the engine idling speed. The ECM calculates the actual engine speed from signals of crankshaft position sensor (POS) and camshaft position sensor.
The ECM controls the electric throttle control actuator so that the engine speed coincides with the target value memorized in the ECM. The target engine speed is the lowest speed at which the engine can operate steadily. The optimum value stored in the ECM is determined by taking into consideration various engine conditions, such as during warming up, deceleration, and engine load (air conditioner, power steering and cooling fan operation, etc.)

Frequently Asked Questions about P0507 2005 Infiniti G35 Code

1. What does the OBDII code P0507 mean on a 2005 Infiniti G35?

P0507 indicates that the engine's idle speed is higher than the manufacturer’s specifications, typically due to an issue with the Idle Air Control System.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P0507 in a 2005 Infiniti G35?

Symptoms include a high idle RPM, rough idling, potential stalling, poor fuel economy, and the Check Engine Light being illuminated.

3. What causes the P0507 code on a 2005 Infiniti G35?

Common causes include a dirty or faulty throttle body, vacuum leaks, a malfunctioning idle air control valve, PCV system issues, or problems with the intake manifold gasket.

4. Can a vacuum leak cause the P0507 code in my Infiniti G35?

Yes, a vacuum leak is a common cause of P0507 because it allows unmetered air into the system, causing the idle RPM to rise above the expected range.

5. How can I fix the P0507 code on my 2005 Infiniti G35?

Start by cleaning the throttle body, inspecting for vacuum leaks, checking the idle air control valve, and ensuring the PCV system is functioning correctly. Replace faulty components as needed.

6. Is it safe to drive with a P0507 code on my Infiniti G35?

While the car may still be drivable, a high idle speed can lead to poor fuel efficiency and potentially damage components over time. It’s best to address the issue promptly.

7. How do I clean the throttle body to fix the P0507 code on my Infiniti G35?

Disconnect the battery, remove the intake hose, and use throttle body cleaner and a soft cloth to gently clean carbon buildup from the throttle plate and housing.

8. Can a dirty mass airflow sensor (MAF) cause the P0507 code on a 2005 Infiniti G35?

Yes, a dirty or malfunctioning MAF sensor can cause incorrect air readings, potentially leading to high idle RPM and triggering the P0507 code.

9. Will resetting the ECU fix the P0507 code on my Infiniti G35?

Resetting the ECU might temporarily turn off the Check Engine Light, but it won’t resolve the underlying issue causing the high idle RPM.

10. How much does it cost to repair the P0507 code on a 2005 Infiniti G35?

The cost varies depending on the root cause, but cleaning the throttle body or replacing small parts like gaskets or hoses can cost $50–$200. More extensive repairs, such as replacing the idle air control valve, might cost $300–$500.
