  • I recently degreased my motor on my 01 crown vic, then I rinsed it off, after I was done, I started it up and it was idling crappy, so I drove it around for a bit to dry it out and while I was driving the check engine light came on so I took it to Autozone to pull the code and while the guy pulled the code I told him what I did and how it was running and he said I got the cylinders wet, so he told me to just continue to drive it and it will dry out and to disconnect the battery to reset the code so I did that. I drove it for about 3 days and on the 3rd day the check engine light came back on but the car doesn't run bad, and the code that originally came up was P0430. So im wondering if its an O2 sensor or 1 one the cats. Does anyone have any ideas, or should I just replace the plugs and the O2 sensors. I cant fine a vacuum leak or hear one and that was one of the possible things that it could be but not sure. So any ideas or help would be great. Im sure there are more crown vic owners out there that have had this problem. I honestly think I know what to do but I am hoping some one else has a more inexpensive idea for me to try.

  • Are any driveability problem right now? When there is a problem with the ignition coils, raw unburned gas goes directly to the catalytic converters. Sometimes that unburned gas will damage the cats, but sometimes it may just temporarily trigger the P0420 and P0430 but then the codes go away.   • Hi, I have a Taurus 2014, code P0430 came out around 2017 and I went to a few workshops and in the end had to replace the catalytic converters. it was a very expensive repair, car had 64k miles on it. driving is normal and mostly highways.

    I asked them to check O2 sensors first but they said it was the catalytic converters. I had no issue with power, car drove normal, low or high speeds and accelerates fine.

    Now, around 6 months ago, same code came back. I am not sure what to do. the first repair was done at Ford agency so they are supposed to be the experts! Same description, just the code with no loss of power. BTW, car passed emission test with the code on ( not in the US, so it might not be very accurate).

    How should I go about the issue? Lets just assume that all workshops are dumba**es and I have to diagnose the issue myself.

    Car is being maintained regularly, spark plugs replacement as per maintenance schedule.

  • What type of gas are you using? the main reason for premature Catalytic Converters failure is the is gas. Low octane or bad gas could cause a a premature failure. I recommend using high octane and/or using a fuel additive before replacing any other parts.

  • 91, we only have 91 and 95 here, and I was advised to use 91 by the dealership.
    I did use fuel additive and cleaned up the injectors a couple of months ago (problem was there already). I am going to try and replace the O2 sensors first and clean up the catalytic with LIQUIMOLY and see what happens, maybe that will solve it. I mean if there was something wrong with the engine and it is passing unburnt gas into the catalytic, I would know from loss of power or something, maybe even the exhaust would make some loud noises.

    I used 95 a long time ago for a little while but stopped. where I work, we have a fleet of Taurus cars and they all use the same fuel, 91. no issues there.

  • I would try the Liquimoly first and then the O2 sensors. Another symptom of unburnt gas going through the engine is black smog. Try monitoring that as well.

I did notice the o2 sensor between the engine and firewall has been melted with the exhaust so it melted the plugs in one solid unit with pins expose could that cause the code 0430 and misfire to happen.? Car run ok but at red light the rpm does surge . Also I put 91 octane with a HEET additive to tank and car runs better with minimum surge. Any advice will be awesome of u to give me and I'll be grateful. Thinking on replacing the o2 sensor bank 2 new since its melted also the MaF sensor.
