My 2003 Subaru Forester quit running as I was driving down the road. It would not start back up it just turned over and would not hit a lick. So I plugged in my scanner to see if I could find anything. It was showing a 340 code which is the camshaft position sensor. Well the first thing I thought of was the timing belt, but the guy I bought the car from 5 months ago said the timing belt and water pump had been replaced a couple of months before I bought it. Well it turned out it was the timing belt. So you can add that to the list of things that could cause the 340 code. The camshaft position sensor signal is not detected by the Engine Control Module because the camshaft is not turning to send a signal. And why on earth would any one make an interference engine?!?!?!?!?!

My '05 Subaru Baja had a camshaft position sensor code go off today but haven't noticed anything strange with vehicle while running. Hoping it's literally just the sensor that needs replacing... Is this something I should have a shop do or can I do it myself? My baja is a turbo which I've been told can be harder to deal with.

- Disconnect sensor
- Remove bolt
- Pull out old sensor
- Install in reverse orderI recommend replacing both camshaft position sensors.
