Code P0300 Buick Description

A misfiring cylinder causes slight variations in the rotational speed of the crankshaft. The Engine Control Module (ECM) is able to detect these variations by closely monitoring the crankshaft position sensor signal. The signals of the camshaft position sensors are used to determine which cylinder is misfiring. If the ECM detects a misfire rate sufficient to cause emission levels to exceed mandated standards, the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set. Under certain driving conditions, a misfire rate can be high enough to cause the catalytic converter to overheat, possibly damaging the converter. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) flashes when the converter is overheating, damaging conditions are present, and the DTC is set. The DTC will be set when the ECM detects a crankshaft rotation speed variation indicating a misfire rate sufficient to cause emissions levels to exceed a predetermined value or a misfire rate high enough to cause catalyst damage.

  • There are many things that can set the P0300 and it looks like that you may have already done all the most common ones.
    There a factory service bulletin that includes your model year, the factory suggest that one of the possible causes that can set the P0300 code, is carbon built up on top of the valves. The factory recommends using a top engine cleaner tool and additive at the dealer.
    I had similar problem with another vehicle, and since I didn't had the tool from the factory, this worked for me: add a fuel additive bottle and high octane gas, then drive you vehicle for at least 30 minutes at around 3000 RPM, the high RPM will heat up the engine and will soften the carbon on top of the valves, and the fuel additive will clean the carbon. You may have to do that a couple times.

    Since you have already replaced all those components, I checked a national database of repairs for similar situations and same vehicle, and I found a couple of cases where the new crankshaft position sensors were defective and a couple more where the problem was the fuel pump.
