Code P0243 Cadillac Description

Output Driver Modules (ODMs) are used by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to turn on many of the current-driven devices that are needed to control various engine and transaxle functions. Each ODM is capable of controlling up to 7 separate outputs by applying ground to the device which the PCM is commanding on. Unlike the Quad Driver Modules (QDMs) used in prior model years, ODMs have the capability of diagnosing each output circuit individually. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0243 indicates an improper voltage level has been detected in the supercharger boost control solenoid control circuit. The DTC will be set when an improper voltage level has been detected on the boost control solenoid control circuit for at least 30 seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0243 Cadillac Code

1. What does the OBDII code P0243 mean on a Cadillac?

P0243 indicates an issue in the supercharger boost solenoid control circuit, which regulates the boost pressure delivered by the supercharger.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P0243 in a Cadillac?

Symptoms may include reduced engine performance, a lack of power during acceleration, poor fuel economy, and the check engine light being illuminated.

3. What causes code P0243 on a Cadillac?

Common causes include a faulty boost solenoid, damaged wiring or connectors in the solenoid circuit, a malfunctioning PCM (Powertrain Control Module), or a vacuum leak in the boost control system.

4. How do I diagnose a P0243 code on my Cadillac?

Start by inspecting the wiring and connectors for damage, testing the boost solenoid for proper operation, checking for vacuum leaks, and using a scan tool to monitor the solenoid's functionality.

5. Can I drive my Cadillac with a P0243 code?

While the vehicle may still be drivable, performance and fuel efficiency may be reduced, and prolonged driving could lead to further engine or supercharger issues.

6. How do I fix a P0243 code on a Cadillac?

Repairs may include replacing the supercharger boost solenoid, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, addressing vacuum leaks, or reprogramming or replacing the PCM if necessary.

7. How much does it cost to repair a P0243 code on a Cadillac?

Repair costs vary but typically range from $100 to $300, depending on whether the solenoid, wiring, or other components need to be replaced.

8. Can a dirty air filter cause a P0243 code?

A dirty air filter usually won’t trigger a P0243 code, but it can indirectly contribute to reduced supercharger efficiency. It’s worth checking as part of overall maintenance.

9. What tools are needed to diagnose a P0243 code?

You’ll need a scan tool capable of reading live data, a multimeter to test electrical circuits, and possibly a vacuum gauge to check for leaks.

10. Will resetting the check engine light clear a P0243 code?

Resetting the light may temporarily clear the code, but if the underlying issue isn’t fixed, the code will likely return.
