P0193 2017 GMC Sierra Code - Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit High Input

Quick Answer

The Engine Control Module (ECM) uses the Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) sensor to constantly adjust the high-pressure fuel pump's feed rate so that the ideal pressure is permanently maintained in the high-pressure section (between the high-pressure fuel pump and the injectors) by means of closed-loop control. Common causes include Low or no fuel, Faulty Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) Sensor, Fuel Rail Pressure harness is open or shorted. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P0193 2017 GMC Sierra Description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) uses the Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) sensor to constantly adjust the high-pressure fuel pump's feed rate so that the ideal pressure is permanently maintained in the high-pressure section (between the high-pressure fuel pump and the injectors) by means of closed-loop control. The fuel rail pressure sensor transmits fuel pressure and temperature information via serial data to the ECM. When the fuel pressure is high, the signal voltage is high. When the fuel pressure is low, the signal voltage is low. The ECM controls the fuel pressure regulator, which regulates high-pressure fuel that goes to the fuel injector rails and the injectors. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set if the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor 1 is greater than a predefined threshold for greater than 1s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0193 2017 GMC Sierra Code

1. What does the OBDII code P0193 mean on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

P0193 indicates that the fuel rail pressure sensor circuit is reporting a high input, meaning the voltage signal is outside the expected range.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P0193 on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

Symptoms may include difficulty starting, reduced fuel efficiency, hesitation during acceleration, and the check engine light being illuminated.

3. What causes the P0193 code on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

Common causes include a faulty fuel rail pressure sensor, wiring issues such as shorts or open circuits, damaged connectors, or issues with the fuel pump.

4. Can I drive my 2017 GMC Sierra with the P0193 code?

While the truck may still run, driving with this code can lead to reduced performance and potential engine damage, so it's best to address the issue promptly.

5. How is the P0193 code diagnosed on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

A mechanic will use a scan tool to read the code, inspect the fuel rail pressure sensor, check wiring and connectors for damage, and test the fuel system for proper operation.

6. How do you fix the P0193 code on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

Repairs may involve replacing the fuel rail pressure sensor, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, or diagnosing and fixing fuel system issues such as pump failure.

7. How much does it cost to fix the P0193 code on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

The cost varies depending on the exact issue but typically ranges from $100 to $300 for parts and labor, with higher costs if the fuel pump needs replacement.

8. Can a dirty fuel filter cause the P0193 code on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

While rare, a clogged fuel filter could restrict flow and contribute to fuel pressure issues, but it's not the most common cause of this code.

9. Will clearing the P0193 code fix the problem on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

Clearing the code resets the check engine light temporarily, but the underlying issue must be resolved to prevent the code from returning.

10. What tools are needed to troubleshoot the P0193 code on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

Tools include an OBDII scanner, multimeter for testing electrical connections, and possibly a fuel pressure gauge to check fuel system performance.
