P0193 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Code - Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit High Input

Quick Answer

The Engine Control Module (ECM) uses the Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) sensor to constantly adjust the high-pressure fuel pump's feed rate so that the ideal pressure is permanently maintained in the high-pressure section (between the high-pressure fuel pump and the injectors) by means of closed-loop control. Common causes include Low or no fuel, Faulty Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) Sensor, Fuel Rail Pressure harness is open or shorted. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P0193 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) uses the Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) sensor to constantly adjust the high-pressure fuel pump's feed rate so that the ideal pressure is permanently maintained in the high-pressure section (between the high-pressure fuel pump and the injectors) by means of closed-loop control. The fuel rail pressure sensor transmits fuel pressure and temperature information via serial data to the ECM. When the fuel pressure is high, the signal voltage is high. When the fuel pressure is low, the signal voltage is low. The ECM controls the fuel pressure regulator, which regulates high-pressure fuel that goes to the fuel injector rails and the injectors. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set if the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor 1 is greater than a predefined threshold for greater than 1s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0193 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Code

1. What does the OBDII code P0193 mean on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

P0193 indicates that the fuel rail pressure sensor is detecting a voltage signal that is higher than the expected range, signaling a potential issue in the sensor or its circuit.

2. What are common symptoms of code P0193 in a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Common symptoms include difficulty starting, rough idling, reduced fuel efficiency, poor engine performance, and an illuminated check engine light.

3. What causes the P0193 code on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Possible causes include a faulty fuel rail pressure sensor, damaged wiring or connectors in the sensor circuit, a malfunctioning fuel pump, or a short circuit.

4. Can I drive my 2014 Chevrolet Silverado with code P0193?

Driving is not recommended, as the issue may lead to poor engine performance, stalling, or potential damage to other components.

5. How do I diagnose the P0193 code on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Diagnosis involves using a scan tool to check live data from the fuel rail pressure sensor, visually inspecting the sensor and wiring, and testing the sensor's voltage and resistance.

6. How do I fix the P0193 code on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Repairs may include replacing the fuel rail pressure sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring/connectors, or addressing issues with the fuel pump if necessary.

7. How much does it cost to fix code P0193 on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Repair costs vary, but replacing a fuel rail pressure sensor typically costs between $100 and $300, including parts and labor.

8. Can a dirty fuel filter cause code P0193 on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

While unlikely, a severely clogged fuel filter could contribute to fuel pressure issues, but it is not a common cause for a high input signal like P0193.

9. Does a bad fuel pump always trigger code P0193 on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Not always. A bad fuel pump typically causes low pressure issues, but in some cases, it can contribute to erratic pressure readings that trigger the code.

10. Do I need to reset the check engine light after fixing the P0193 code on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Yes, after repairs, the check engine light should be cleared with a scan tool. If the issue is resolved, the light should not return.
