P0171 2011 Nissan Sentra Code - Fuel Injection System Too Lean Bank 1
Quick Answer
With the Air/Fuel Mixture Ratio Self-Learning Control, the actual mixture ratio can be brought closely to the theoretical mixture ratio based on the mixture ratio feedback signal from the heated oxygen sensors 1. Common causes include Intake air leaks, Faulty front heated oxygen sensor, Ignition misfiring. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0171 2011 Nissan Sentra Code
1. What does OBDII code P0171 on a 2011 Nissan Sentra mean?
- This code indicates that the fuel injection system in Bank 1 is operating too lean, meaning there is an imbalance in the air-fuel mixture.
2. What are the common symptoms of a P0171 code in a 2011 Nissan Sentra?
- Common symptoms include rough idling, poor acceleration, engine stalling, and an overall lack of power.
3. What are some possible causes of a P0171 code in a 2011 Nissan Sentra?
- Causes may include a vacuum leak, faulty oxygen sensor, dirty mass airflow sensor, clogged fuel filter, or a malfunctioning fuel injector.
4. How can I diagnose the root cause of a P0171 code in my 2011 Nissan Sentra?
- Diagnostic steps may involve checking for vacuum leaks, testing the oxygen sensor, inspecting the mass airflow sensor, examining the fuel filter, and assessing the fuel injector.
5. Can a dirty air filter trigger a P0171 code in a 2011 Nissan Sentra?
- Yes, a dirty air filter can disrupt the air-fuel mixture balance, potentially leading to a lean condition and triggering the P0171 code.
6. What are some recommended repair tips for resolving a P0171 code in a 2011 Nissan Sentra?
- Repair tips may include replacing the oxygen sensor, cleaning or replacing the mass airflow sensor, inspecting and cleaning the fuel injector, and ensuring there are no vacuum leaks.
7. Is it safe to continue driving a 2011 Nissan Sentra with a P0171 code?
- It is not recommended to drive with a P0171 code as it can lead to poor engine performance, decreased fuel efficiency, and potential long-term damage if left unresolved.
8. Can a bad fuel pump cause a P0171 code in a 2011 Nissan Sentra?
- While a failing fuel pump may not directly cause a P0171 code, it can contribute to fuel delivery issues that impact the air-fuel mixture balance and trigger the code.
9. Will resetting the OBDII system clear a P0171 code in a 2011 Nissan Sentra?
- While clearing the code may temporarily turn off the check engine light, it will not fix the underlying issue causing the lean condition and the P0171 code.
10. How important is it to address a P0171 code promptly in a 2011 Nissan Sentra?
- It is crucial to address a P0171 code promptly to prevent potential engine damage, improve fuel efficiency, and restore optimal performance in your Nissan Sentra.
Discuss the causes and fixes for P0171 2011 Nissan Sentra OBDII Code
-
Getting the P0171 code only on my 2011 Sentra. Had used two fuel injector cleaners and the code would turn off temporarily but eventually turn back on. Also had it twice have the VDC light come on and couldn't drive the car over a few miles an hour. After turning off the engine and restarting the light was no longer on. Now car hesitates severely in reverse. Just cleaned the MAF sensor but haven't noticed any changes yet and code still up for now. Also replaced the air filter last week and checked fluid levels, everything seems right.
-
I have replaced both converters, air fuel sensor, map sensor . still have the code.
-
I recommend checking for intake leaks and if possible, replace the air filter and clean the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
