Code P0159 Chevrolet Description

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) supplies a voltage of about 450 mV between the HO2S high and low signal circuits. The oxygen sensor varies the voltage over a range from about 1,000 mV when the exhaust is rich, down through about 10 mV when the exhaust is lean.
The PCM monitors and stores the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) voltage information. The PCM evaluates the HO2S voltage samples in order to determine the amount of time the HO2S voltage was out of range. The PCM compares the stored HO2S voltage samples taken within each sample period and determines if majority of the samples are out of the operating range.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0159 Chevrolet Code

1. What is OBDII code P0159 for a Chevrolet?

This code indicates a slow response from the HO2S22 sensor, which is the oxygen sensor located in the bank 2 sensor 2 position.

2. What are the common symptoms of a P0159 code in a Chevrolet?

Common symptoms include poor fuel economy, rough idling, hesitation or jerking during acceleration, and an illuminated check engine light.

3. What are the possible causes of a P0159 code in a Chevrolet?

Possible causes include a faulty HO2S22 sensor, wiring issues in the sensor circuit, exhaust leaks near the sensor, or an engine running too rich or too lean.

4. How can I diagnose a P0159 code in my Chevrolet?

Diagnosis typically involves using a scan tool to read the code, inspecting the sensor and its wiring for damage, checking for exhaust leaks, and monitoring sensor data to assess its response time.

5. Can I drive my Chevrolet with a P0159 code?

While it may be possible to drive with a P0159 code, it is not recommended as it can lead to decreased fuel efficiency and potential damage to the catalytic converter over time.

6. How can I repair a P0159 code in my Chevrolet?

Repair options may include replacing the HO2S22 sensor, repairing any damaged wiring in the sensor circuit, fixing any exhaust leaks, and addressing any issues causing the engine to run too rich or too lean.

7. Is it possible to reset a P0159 code in a Chevrolet without fixing the underlying issue?

While clearing the code may temporarily turn off the check engine light, it will not fix the underlying issue causing the code to appear. The code is likely to reappear until the problem is resolved.

8. How much does it typically cost to repair a P0159 code in a Chevrolet?

The cost of repair can vary depending on the specific cause of the code, but it may range from $100 to $300 for parts and labor.
