AutoCodesNissan – P0157 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

P0157 2008 Nissan Pathfinder Code - HO2S22 Circuit Low Voltage

Quick Answer

The heated oxygen sensor 2 (HO2S), after three way catalyst (manifold), monitors the oxygen level in the exhaust gas on each bank. Common causes include Faulty Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2, Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 harness is open or shorted, Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is Moderate - service should be scheduled soon. The vehicle may still be drivable for short trips if it runs normally, but avoid hard driving and repair it soon.

Code P0157 2008 Nissan Pathfinder Description

The heated oxygen sensor 2 (HO2S), after three way catalyst (manifold), monitors the oxygen level in the exhaust gas on each bank. For optimum catalyst operation, the air fuel mixture (air-fuel ratio) must be maintained near the ideal stoichiometric ratio. The HO2S output voltage changes suddenly in the vicinity of the stoichiometric ratio. The Engine Control Module (ECM) adjusts the fuel injection time so that the air-fuel ratio is nearly stoichiometric. The HO2S generates a voltage between 0.1 and 0.9 V in response to oxygen in the exhaust gas. If the oxygen in the exhaust gas increases, the air-fuel ratio becomes Lean. The ECM interprets Lean when the HO2S voltage is below 0.45 V. If the oxygen in the exhaust gas decreases, the air-fuel ratio becomes Rich. The ECM interprets Rich when the HO2S voltage is above 0.45 V.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0157 2008 Nissan Pathfinder Code

1. What does the OBDII code P0157 mean on a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder?

P0157 indicates that the oxygen sensor located on Bank 2, Sensor 2 (downstream sensor) is detecting a low voltage, which means the sensor is reporting a lean mixture.

2. What are the common symptoms of a P0157 code in a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder?

Symptoms may include poor fuel economy, rough idling, hesitation during acceleration, or the Check Engine Light turning on.

3. What causes the P0157 code to appear in my 2008 Nissan Pathfinder?

Common causes include a faulty oxygen sensor, exhaust leaks, damaged wiring or connectors, or issues with the engine control module (ECM).

4. Can I drive my 2008 Nissan Pathfinder with a P0157 code?

While the vehicle may still be drivable, it is not recommended to ignore the code as it can lead to reduced performance, increased emissions, and potential damage to the catalytic converter.

5. How do I fix the P0157 code on a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder?

Repairs may include replacing the Bank 2, Sensor 2 oxygen sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, fixing exhaust leaks, or updating the ECM software if necessary.

6. How can I diagnose the P0157 code in my Nissan Pathfinder?

Start by checking the wiring and connectors for damage, inspect the oxygen sensor for proper function, and check for exhaust leaks or other related issues.

7. What tools do I need to troubleshoot the P0157 code?

You’ll need an OBDII scanner, a multimeter to test voltage, and possibly a vacuum gauge to check for potential exhaust leaks.

8. How much does it cost to repair a P0157 code on a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder?

The cost can range from $150 to $300 for an oxygen sensor replacement, while repairs for wiring or other issues may vary depending on labor costs and parts.

9. How often do oxygen sensors fail on a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder?

Oxygen sensors typically last 60,000 to 100,000 miles, but failure can occur sooner depending on driving habits, fuel quality, or engine condition.

10. Could a dirty air filter cause the P0157 code in my Pathfinder?

A dirty air filter is unlikely to directly cause the P0157 code, but it can contribute to improper air-fuel mixtures, which may affect oxygen sensor readings.
