Code P0155 2016 GMC Sierra Description

Heated Oxygen Sensors (HO2S) are used for fuel control and post catalyst monitoring. Each HO2S compares the oxygen content of the surrounding air with the oxygen content in the exhaust stream. The HO2S must reach an operating temperature to provide an accurate voltage signal. A heating element inside the HO2S minimizes the time required for the sensors to reach operating temperature. Voltage is provided to the heater by an ignition voltage circuit through a fuse. With the engine running, the ground is provided to the heater by the HO2S heater low control circuit through a low side driver within the Engine Control Module (ECM). The ECM uses Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) to control the HO2S heater operation to maintain a specific HO2S operating temperature range.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects that the HO2S 1 heater current is out of factory specifications.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0155 2016 GMC Sierra Code

What does the OBDII code P0155 mean on a 2016 GMC Sierra?

P0155 indicates an issue with the heater circuit of the oxygen sensor in Bank 2 Sensor 1, meaning the sensor may not be warming up properly.

What are the common symptoms of code P0155 in a 2016 GMC Sierra?

Common symptoms include an illuminated check engine light, reduced fuel efficiency, rough idling, or delayed sensor readings during a cold start.

What causes the P0155 code to appear in a GMC Sierra?

The most common causes are a faulty oxygen sensor, damaged wiring or connectors, a blown fuse, or issues with the vehicle’s PCM (Powertrain Control Module).

Where is Bank 2 Sensor 1 located on a 2016 GMC Sierra?

Bank 2 Sensor 1 is the upstream oxygen sensor located on the side of the engine that does not contain Cylinder 1, before the catalytic converter.

Can I drive my 2016 GMC Sierra with a P0155 code?

While the vehicle may still be drivable, prolonged use with this code can lead to poor fuel economy and potential damage to the catalytic converter. It’s best to address the issue promptly.

How do I fix the P0155 code on my GMC Sierra?

Repairs may involve replacing the faulty oxygen sensor, checking and repairing wiring or connectors, replacing a blown fuse, or reprogramming/updating the PCM if necessary.

How do I test the oxygen sensor for a P0155 code?

You can test the oxygen sensor using a multimeter to check for proper voltage and resistance in the heater circuit. Refer to the sensor’s specifications for the correct readings.

How much does it cost to fix the P0155 code on a 2016 GMC Sierra?

Replacing an oxygen sensor typically costs $150-$300, including parts and labor. Additional costs may apply if wiring or PCM repairs are needed.

Can a dirty air filter cause the P0155 code?

No, a dirty air filter is not related to the heater circuit of the oxygen sensor. However, it can indirectly affect engine performance and emissions.

Will clearing the P0155 code with a scanner fix the problem?

Clearing the code may temporarily turn off the check engine light, but it won’t resolve the underlying issue. The code will likely return until the root cause is fixed.
