The ECM controls the heater element circuit by allowing current flow to ground.

I replaced the O2 sensor on my 04 Galant LS and the check engine light came back on after I started my car the second time. When I started my car the first time it went away, I didn't know that there were fuses for the sensor until I read this thread. Do those symptoms sound like a fuse issue and if so where would they be located on my car?

Simplemente el sensor dejor de funcionar, pasa muy seguido con los sensores de oxygeno. El efecto del sensor en el funcionamiento del motor es muy minima, talvez puede que gaste un poco mas gas, solamente.

found it (I think) . engine compartment fuse box, fuse 8. But it shared with a lot of other circuits, I wonder if is in fact the O2 sensor what is broken since is the only error I am getting.

If the fuse is OK, then the problem is more than likely the O2 sensor. According to a national database of repairs for your model year, the sensor is by far the most common problem that will set the P0135 code. -
Thanks. The most interesting thing happened. I went ahead and removed the fuse to check it out, it look good so I place it back into its place, and voila! the check engine light went off.
I drove for about 15 minutes or so and it did not light up again. I'll check tomorrow, but I wonder what could have happened. The fuse was not out of its place for longer than a minute for the codes to be reset.

Was the engine cold when you tested? the heater part of the O2 sensor only works and tested by the ECM when the engine is cold. If the engine was already warm up, then the heater part is not tested by the ECM.
There is also a chance that the fuse was not making good contact. -
The check engine light has been on for weeks already, regardless if I just switched the ignition on, or if the car was running for more than half an hour.
I had to drive the car ~3 miles to get the Pcode, so it was not cold, but was not really hot when tested for Pcodes.
When I removed the fuse and place it back, the car was parked for about 2 hours.. and just right after that the engine light never came back on. I just started the car this morning and it still not on. I will drive around today, actually I will take it for emissions testing and see how that goes. -

The grease is just anti seizing grease, most new O2 sensors come with a pack of grease or with grease already on the sensor threads.

Thanks!, I replaced the sensor and after resetting the computer (and driving ~100 miles) no more "check engine light".

Have a '04 ES Lancer with a P0135 code (bank 1, sensor 1). Cleared code, but check engine light came back after a few drives. If disconnecting the sensor itself and starting the engine the check engine light comes back on the next start which made me think it's the sensor. Checked all fuses (under dash and under hood) which made check engine light go away for now, but all fuses were confirmed good. Measured the ohm of the o2 sensor (two black wires) and had a reading (for those curious 0.L which stands for "out of limit" would confirm it's a bad sensor), and finally checked the voltage of the wire harness and got a voltage ~13.8V. Also with an obd reader connected with engine running, checked the voltage vary when reeving the engine. So, everything says it's fine yet my obd says P0135 so is my sensor really the issue?
