Code P0105 Volvo Description

The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor measures the pressure inside the intake manifold. Pressure in the intake manifold is affected by engine speed, throttle opening, air temperature, Barometric Pressure (BARO) and if equipped, turbocharger output. A diaphragm within the MAP sensor is displaced by the pressure changes that occur from the varying load and operating conditions of the engine. The sensor translates this action into electrical resistance.
The MAP sensor wiring includes 3 circuits. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies a regulated 5 volts to the sensor on a 5 V reference circuit. The ECM supplies ground on a low reference circuit. The MAP sensor provides a signal voltage to the ECM, relative to the pressure changes, on the MAP sensor signal circuit. The ECM converts the signal voltage input to a pressure value.
Under normal operation the greatest pressure that can exist in the intake manifold is at ignition ON, engine OFF, which is equal to the BARO. The lowest manifold pressure occurs when the vehicle is idling or decelerating. The ECM monitors the MAP sensor signal for pressure outside of the normal range.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM receives an excessively low or high voltage from the MAP Sensor.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0105 Volvo Code

1. What are the common symptoms of OBDII code P0105 in a Volvo?

- Common symptoms include poor engine performance, rough idling, stalling, and reduced fuel efficiency.

2. What can cause the Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Malfunction in a Volvo?

- Possible causes include a faulty MAP sensor, damaged wiring or connectors, vacuum leaks, or issues with the intake manifold.

3. How can I diagnose the P0105 code in my Volvo?

- Use an OBDII scanner to retrieve the trouble code and check for any related codes. Inspect the MAP sensor, wiring, and connectors for visible damage or corrosion.

4. Can a dirty air filter trigger the P0105 code in a Volvo?

- Yes, a dirty air filter can restrict airflow to the engine, leading to incorrect readings by the MAP sensor and potentially triggering the P0105 code.

5. What are some repair tips for addressing the Manifold Absolute Pressure Circuit Malfunction in a Volvo?

- Start by checking and replacing the air filter if necessary. Ensure all connections to the MAP sensor are secure and free of corrosion. Consider replacing the MAP sensor if it is found to be faulty.

6. Will driving with the P0105 code illuminated cause any further damage to my Volvo?

- Continuing to drive with the P0105 code present may result in reduced fuel efficiency and engine performance. It is recommended to address the issue promptly to avoid potential further damage.

7. Can a failed oxygen sensor trigger the P0105 code in a Volvo?

- While less common, a failed oxygen sensor can indirectly affect the MAP sensor readings and potentially lead to the P0105 code being triggered.

8. How much does it typically cost to repair the Manifold Absolute Pressure Circuit Malfunction in a Volvo?

- The cost of repair can vary depending on the cause of the issue. Replacing a faulty MAP sensor or repairing damaged wiring may cost between $100 to $300, excluding labor charges.

9. Is it safe to drive my Volvo with the P0105 code if the engine seems to be running fine?

- It is generally not recommended to drive with the P0105 code present, as it can lead to decreased fuel efficiency and performance over time. It is best to address the issue as soon as possible.

10. Can a clogged catalytic converter trigger the P0105 code in a Volvo?

- A clogged catalytic converter can indirectly affect engine performance and emissions, potentially causing issues with the MAP sensor readings and triggering the P0105 code.
