Code P0105 Saturn Description

The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor measures the pressure inside the intake manifold. Pressure in the intake manifold is affected by engine speed, throttle opening, air temperature, Barometric Pressure (BARO) and if equipped, turbocharger output. A diaphragm within the MAP sensor is displaced by the pressure changes that occur from the varying load and operating conditions of the engine. The sensor translates this action into electrical resistance.
The MAP sensor wiring includes 3 circuits. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies a regulated 5 volts to the sensor on a 5 V reference circuit. The ECM supplies ground on a low reference circuit. The MAP sensor provides a signal voltage to the ECM, relative to the pressure changes, on the MAP sensor signal circuit. The ECM converts the signal voltage input to a pressure value.
Under normal operation the greatest pressure that can exist in the intake manifold is at ignition ON, engine OFF, which is equal to the BARO. The lowest manifold pressure occurs when the vehicle is idling or decelerating. The ECM monitors the MAP sensor signal for pressure outside of the normal range.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM receives an excessively low or high voltage from the MAP Sensor.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0105 Saturn Code

1. What are common symptoms of OBDII code P0105 in a Saturn?

- Common symptoms include poor engine performance, rough idling, stalling, decreased fuel efficiency, and the Check Engine Light illuminating.

2. What causes the OBDII code P0105 in a Saturn?

- The P0105 code is typically triggered by issues such as a faulty Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor, damaged wiring or connectors in the pressure sensor circuit, or a vacuum leak in the intake manifold.

3. How can I diagnose the P0105 code in my Saturn?

- To diagnose the P0105 code, you can use an OBDII scanner to retrieve the fault code and then visually inspect the MAP sensor and its wiring for any signs of damage or corrosion. You may also need to test the sensor using a multimeter.

4. Can a dirty air filter cause the P0105 code in a Saturn?

- Yes, a dirty or clogged air filter can restrict airflow to the engine, which may lead to incorrect pressure readings by the MAP sensor and trigger the P0105 code.

5. What are some repair tips for fixing the P0105 code in a Saturn?

- Repair tips include cleaning or replacing the MAP sensor, checking and repairing any damaged wiring or connectors in the sensor circuit, ensuring there are no vacuum leaks in the intake manifold, and replacing the air filter if needed.

6. Is it safe to continue driving with the P0105 code in my Saturn?

- It is not recommended to continue driving with the P0105 code active, as it can lead to further engine damage and potential safety hazards due to poor performance.

7. Can I reset the P0105 code in my Saturn by disconnecting the battery?

- While disconnecting the battery may temporarily clear the code, it is not a proper fix for the underlying issue causing the P0105 code. It is best to diagnose and repair the root cause of the problem.

8. How much does it typically cost to repair the P0105 code in a Saturn?

- The cost of repairing the P0105 code can vary depending on the specific issue causing the code and the labor rates in your area. Costs may range from $100 to $300 or more, including parts and labor.

9. Can extreme weather conditions affect the P0105 code in a Saturn?

- Yes, extreme weather conditions, such as very hot or very cold temperatures, can sometimes affect the readings of the MAP sensor and trigger the P0105 code. Ensure proper insulation and protection for the sensor in such conditions.

10. Will the P0105 code cause my Saturn to fail an emissions test?

- Yes, the P0105 code can cause your Saturn to fail an emissions test, as it indicates a malfunction in the pressure sensor circuit that can impact the vehicle's emissions control system. It is recommended to address the issue before undergoing an emissions test.
