P0060 2017 Ford F150 Code - HO2S Heater Resistance Bank 2 Sensor 2

Quick Answer

The HO2S detects the presence of oxygen in the exhaust and produces a variable voltage according to the amount of oxygen detected. Common causes include Faulty Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 2 (HO2S22), Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 2 circuit open shorted to ground, Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 2 circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is Moderate - service should be scheduled soon. The vehicle may still be drivable for short trips if it runs normally, but avoid hard driving and repair it soon.

Code P0060 2017 Ford F150 Description

The HO2S detects the presence of oxygen in the exhaust and produces a variable voltage according to the amount of oxygen detected. A high concentration of oxygen (lean air to fuel ratio) in the exhaust produces a voltage signal of less than 0.4 volt. A low concentration of oxygen (rich air to fuel ratio) produces a voltage signal greater than 0.6 volt. The HO2S provides feedback to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) indicating air to fuel ratio in order to achieve a near stoichiometric air to fuel ratio of 14.7 to 1 (9 to 1 E100) during closed loop engine operation.
When the oxygen sensor is cold, disconnected, or on initial start-up, the voltage may read between 1.5 to 1.7 volts. The oxygen sensor voltage will decrease to the normal operating range of 0.0 to 1.1 volts during warm, stabilized engine running conditions.
The HO2S heater is embedded with a sensing element. The heating element heats the sensor to a temperature of 800°C (1,472°F). At approximately 300°C (572°F) the engine enters closed loop operation. The heater allows the engine to enter closed loop operation sooner.
This Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) sets when the heater current requirements are too low or too high in the Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 2 (HO2S22) circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0060 2017 Ford F150 Code

1. What does the OBDII code P0060 mean for a 2017 Ford F150?

P0060 indicates an issue with the heater resistance circuit for the downstream oxygen sensor on Bank 2 (Sensor 2). It typically points to a problem with the sensor's heater or its circuit.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P0060 in a 2017 Ford F150?

Symptoms may include an illuminated check engine light, poor fuel economy, increased emissions, and possibly failed emissions testing.

3. What causes the P0060 code to appear on a 2017 Ford F150?

Common causes include a faulty oxygen sensor, damaged wiring or connectors in the heater circuit, or issues with the vehicle’s powertrain control module (PCM).

4. How can I fix a P0060 code on my 2017 Ford F150?

Start by inspecting and repairing any damaged wiring or connectors. If the problem persists, replacing the Bank 2 Sensor 2 oxygen sensor is often necessary.

5. How do I locate Bank 2 Sensor 2 on a 2017 Ford F150?

Bank 2 refers to the side of the engine opposite the #1 cylinder, and Sensor 2 is the oxygen sensor located downstream, after the catalytic converter.

6. Can I drive my 2017 Ford F150 with a P0060 code?

While the vehicle may still run, driving with this code can lead to reduced fuel efficiency, increased emissions, and potential damage to other engine components over time.

7. How do I test the oxygen sensor heater circuit for P0060?

Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the heater circuit in the oxygen sensor. Compare the reading to manufacturer specifications to determine if the sensor is faulty.

8. Is replacing the oxygen sensor the only solution for a P0060 code?

No, the issue could also be caused by wiring problems or a PCM malfunction. Proper diagnosis is necessary to identify the root cause.

9. How much does it cost to repair the P0060 code on a 2017 Ford F150?

Repair costs can vary, but replacing the oxygen sensor typically ranges from $150 to $400, depending on labor rates and parts prices.

10. Can a P0060 code cause my 2017 Ford F150 to fail emissions testing?

Yes, since the oxygen sensor affects emissions control, this code can cause your vehicle to fail an emissions test.
