My 2006 Subaru has had this code 3 or 4 times, once when I was traveling from Texas back home to Pa. My Subaru got me home. The only thing I noticed was a slight lack of power and no cruise control when the check engine light was on and the cruise light blinks. I am wondering when I will have to have the solenoid replaced or repaired or is it the wiring ? Anybody have an answer ?

My 2009 Forester had this code recently. My trustworthy mechanic said the problem was low oil pressure and a dirty throttle. So he replaced the oil and cleaned the throttle. He said he tested it 3 three times to make sure the problem was solved. I just got the car back, so we'll see if it holds up.

checked the oil and there was nothing on the dip stick! over 15K since the last change! Cleared the code and changed the oil ... so far so good, hope i didn't screw it up too badly!

have the engine oil flushed with an additive from a Subaru dealer. the detergent will be added to the motor oil , the engine will be run for a short duration and the oil will be drained along with most impurities in the engine. new oil gets added along with new filter and you will likely never see the code again unless you further neglect your oil changes.

I have a 2007 Subaru Outback 2.5I and am receiving the P0028 code. I just performed a head gasket replacement on both heads as well as timing belt and water pump replacement. I was not receiving the code prior to this engine repair and now I am. There is new synthetic oil as well as all new coolant in the engine. Is it possible it's just the solenoid? It's only about a $15-$20 part. Any thoughts?

I’ve gotten several different diagnosis's if that’s even a word..? P0028 and others which pertain to VVT solenoid malfunction however; one mechanic told me YOUR ENGINE RUNS FINE, It’s your NEWLY INSTALLED DRIVESHAFT WHICH ISN'T TRUE!! WTH … took it for test drive! Also he hadn’t actually pulled a code because the vehicle RESET itself after ?? how many ignition attempts? Is that even a thing?
