  • i received this code after the engine light came on, even though the oil warning light was never activated. After oil was added, and the codes cleared, the check engine light went off.

I did a lot of swapping of front solenoids between L and R bank (Subaru 2006 B9 Tribeca 3.0 6cyl) and code stayed the same so I figured it wasn't the solenoid causing the trip. I have a Scangauge that displays the code and resets it, amongst other things) On the back of bank 1 (pass. side) is a solenoid and oil pressure sensor in close proximity. I figured the OP sensor is what causes the code trip so I replaced that. Voila, no more codes. A friend is a mechanic and has cleared the same code on 3 other Subarus same way (Outbacks, 4cyl). One time he replaced the solenoid: no fix, then the OPS: fix. A lot cheaper. Other forums recommend oil changes which sometimes work.

Took out my soldering iron, added a small piece of wire to the connector and soldered the wire back on.   • Hello, hopefully this thread is still monitored. Wondering if a 0026 bank 1 code, failed valve solenoid, will cause a p0172 bank 1 code.
    We've had the p0172 code for some time and a Subaru guy recommended to repl the front O2 sensor, which did nothing, then the MAF sensor, which did nothing.
    It would make sense to me that the defective valve timing solenoid could cause rich mixture, I guess.
