Code P0010 Saturn Description

The Camshaft Position (CMP) actuator system enables the Engine Control Module (ECM) to change the timing of the camshafts while the engine is operating. The Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve signal from the ECM is Pulse Width Modulated (PWM). The ECM controls the Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve duty cycle by controlling the amount of solenoid valve ON time. The Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve controls the advance or the retard of each camshaft. The Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve controls the oil flow that applies the pressure to advance or retard the camshafts.
Ignition voltage is supplied directly to the Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve. The ECM controls the solenoid valve by grounding the control circuit with a solid-state device called a driver. The driver is equipped with a feedback circuit that is pulled up to a voltage. The ECM can determine if the control circuit is open, shorted to the ground, or shorted to a voltage by monitoring the feedback voltage.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects an open solenoid circuit in the CMP actuator for greater than 1 second or a cumulative of 5 seconds when the solenoid is commanded OFF.
The ECM monitors the control circuit of the CMP actuator solenoid for electrical faults. The ECM can determine if a control circuit is open, shorted high, or shorted low. If the ECM detects a fault with the CMP actuator solenoid control, DTC P0010 will set.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0010 Saturn Code

1. What does OBDII code P0010 mean on a Saturn?

P0010 indicates an issue with the Intake Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Control Circuit on Bank 1, meaning the ECM is unable to control the camshaft timing properly.

2. What are common symptoms of P0010 in a Saturn vehicle?

Symptoms include rough idling, reduced engine performance, poor fuel economy, difficulty starting the engine, and the Check Engine Light being illuminated.

3. What causes the P0010 code to appear on a Saturn?

Common causes include a faulty camshaft position actuator solenoid, damaged wiring or connectors in the circuit, low or dirty engine oil, or a malfunctioning ECM.

4. Can low oil levels trigger the P0010 code in a Saturn?

Yes, insufficient or dirty engine oil can cause the solenoid to malfunction, which may trigger the P0010 code.

5. How do you diagnose the P0010 code on a Saturn?

Diagnosis involves scanning for additional codes, inspecting the wiring and connectors for damage, testing the camshaft actuator solenoid, and checking the engine oil condition and level.

6. Can I drive my Saturn with the P0010 code active?

While the vehicle may still run, driving with this code can lead to reduced performance and potential engine damage if not addressed promptly.

7. How do you fix the P0010 code on a Saturn?

Repairs may include replacing the camshaft position actuator solenoid, repairing damaged wiring, cleaning or replacing dirty engine oil, or reprogramming the ECM if necessary.

8. What tools are needed to troubleshoot the P0010 code on a Saturn?

You’ll need an OBDII scanner, a multimeter for electrical testing, and basic tools to inspect and replace components like the solenoid.

9. How much does it cost to fix the P0010 code on a Saturn?

The cost can vary but typically ranges from $150 to $400, depending on whether the solenoid needs replacing and labor charges.

10. Can a failing ECM cause the P0010 code in a Saturn?

While rare, a malfunctioning ECM can fail to properly control the camshaft actuator, triggering the P0010 code.

Discuss the causes and fixes for P0010 Saturn OBDII Code

  • I have replace my harness and camshaft position sensor 4 times now it's this code and service traction control. I am so done with Chevy and this car.

  • What model and year is your vehicle?

  • 2007 Saturn aura xe
It has been a nightmare. It was reading the cat first replaced 02 sensors already. Exhaust system, radiator, battery, water pump, and fixed the power steering pump. The alarm keeps resetting itself but didn't lock doors. Now it keeps trying to lock doors all the time. It pulled me to the shoulder 9f the road earlier today. It been running rough. Then runs fine. Check engine will go off once u reset codes stays off until u turn car off. Then comes right back on.

  • I'm sorry you are having so many problem with your vehicle. The best thing is to try fixing one thing at time. How is the engine oil level and condition? if the oil is OK, then the variable valve timing control solenoid is the most common problem that will trigger the P0010 code on your vehicle.

  • I just change the oil. And the campshaft position sesor 2 different ones
