Discuss the causes and fixes for B2014 Infiniti OBDII Code

  • Hi. I have a 2010 Infiniti FX35. Never had any issues with it til now. It won't start. It wouldn't turn over, no clicking, no dash lights came on, no engine light came on...nothing. I noticed that when I locked the car back, the security system did not beep, but the doors did lock. The next day, when I unlocked the car and then locked it back, the security system beeped as normal, so I tried starting the car, and it started up with no problem. The only other problem I had starting the car was sometimes when I start it if I don't give it a little gas it will shut off. I took it to Infiniti and they diagnosed a B2014 code indicating that my steering lock assembly needed to be replaced. They said something about the key is not being read by the computer, hence the car not starting. Does this sound right? Thanks

  • Does this sound right?

No. If you had a problem with the key, the dash lights would turn ON, but the engine will not start. At the dealer, we had some problems with the negative battery on the FX. The negative cable completes the circuit by connecting one end to the battery negative terminal and the other end to the vehicle chassis; the connection sometimes will get rusted and makes a poor connection. Remove the bolt that holds the negative cable to the chassis and then clean the cable and the chassis threads. Also, make sure the positive cable is tight and battery fully charge.

  • Thanks. I'll give it a try
