Are you sure you got the B1342? the B1342 is for problems with the control unit and it is usually combine with other codes. It may be also be triggered by problems with the In Satellite Audio Unit. The B1342 has nothing to do with the steering system.

B1342 could be many other things... For me the code mentions the Power Steering module.... I 've gotten B1342 -2F or B1342-6F ... Apparently Replacing the power steering motor and not the whole column will fix it supposedly... When the problem is the Angle sensor people get a phantom shake in the wheel,.. If it does not turn on on startup sometimes, people have fixed it by just replacing the POwer Steering Motor which includes teh angle sensor. Ford says you got to replace the whole steering column , but it is not true. Replace just the PS motor and it can be done easily without removing the steering wheel or airbags... This is what I 've found reading..
