For Toyota Prius, I use Techstream tool (software that connects a PC to the cars computer system through and OBD adapter). Normally if the tire pressure warning light on the dash blinks, this indicates low (or even too high) air pressure. If the warning light is constant on this indicates potential faulty tire pressure valve stem or other pressure recording fault (in which the tire pressure sensor transmits data via radio wave to the cars antenna), If constant on, this typically indicates a mechanically defective valve stem or battery in the valve stem is used up. On a constant on tire pressure light, a recent Techstream analysis reported all but one of the valve stems was recording data correctly. One way to confirm this is to compare actual tire pressure measurement with Techstream recording...they should be the same. Since all but one of the senors was recording correctly, this indicated the system in general is working correctly and that a valve stem is probably faulty. Each valve stem has its own unique identification number. Valve stems are also identified in Techstream as ID1, ID2, ID3, ID4 and ID5 (spare). To determine which valve stem is faulty, go to each tire, let a little air out of that tire and check on Techstream which tire has the low air pressure. Note that tires ID number and other identificaiton number. Put in proper air pressure and go to each tire and repeat the process to associate each tire with the relevant ID number. Once the ID number is determined, scribe some sort of code identification on the inside of the tire rim so that in the future you can identify which tire has which stem. This is necessary since in the future tires could be rotated, thereby adjusting tire location and ID location. Stems can be ordered online (Amazon). Order the number of stems needed. Note each stem has its own identification number. Have a tire shop replace the faulty stem with the new one. Install the tire. Then connect Techstream and log on and reprogramme the relevant tire with its new identification number. There are many online portals (youtube in particular) that provide step by step procedure for reprogramming new valve stems with Techstream (mainly you replace the old faulty valve stem identification number with the new one). Remember to write down the unique id number of the stem, which is used by the cars computer to identify each tire and report relevant pressure warnings.
