The Power Steering Control Module continuously monitors the voltage and current levels being commanded to the 3-phase Electric Power Steering Motor. The Power Steering Control Module compares the desired and actual current levels to detect malfunctions in the Electric Power Steering Motor or the circuits to the motor. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the Power Steering Control Module has determined that the motor position is outside of an allowed tolerance, the motor sensor trim has not been configured by the manufacturer, or the Power Steering Control Module has determined that there is excessive rack travel.
