Code B3797 Cadillac Description

The Body Control Module (BCM) powers the reversible door latch assemblies by providing battery positive voltage and ground to the appropriate lock and unlock control circuits of the door latch assemblies. The lock and unlock control circuits of the rear doors and passenger door latch assemblies are all connected together. When the door latch assemblies are not active, all actuator lock and unlock control circuits are supplied a floating voltage used by the BCM to perform diagnostic functions on the circuits. Transitioning of the lock actuators to the lock or unlocked position depends upon which control circuits receive voltage and which control circuits receive ground.
The instrument panel right fuse block contains a PCB relay which controls the functions of the electronic child locks which is part of the rear door latch assemblies. When the relay is in its inactive state and the BCM commands the latches to LOCK and UNLOCK, voltage will pass through the relay contacts for normal LOCK and UNLOCK functions of the passenger, left rear and right rear door latch assemblies.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) sets when the BCM detects a short to ground in the door lock relay control circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions about B3797 Cadillac Code

1. What does the OBDII code B3797 mean on a Cadillac?

B3797 indicates an issue with the All Door Dead Lock Circuit, which is responsible for ensuring all doors are securely locked when the deadlock function is activated.

2. What are the common symptoms of the B3797 code?

Symptoms include doors not locking or unlocking properly, the deadlock feature malfunctioning, or a security warning light appearing on the dashboard.

3. What causes the B3797 code on a Cadillac?

Common causes include damaged wiring or connectors in the deadlock circuit, a faulty door lock actuator, or a malfunctioning Body Control Module (BCM).

4. Can the B3797 code drain the vehicle battery?

Yes, if the deadlock circuit is shorted or stuck, it may cause the system to remain active, potentially draining the battery over time.

5. How can I diagnose the B3797 code?

Start by inspecting the wiring and connectors for damage or corrosion. Use a scan tool to check the BCM for additional codes and verify if the deadlock circuit is functioning properly.

6. Is the B3797 code related to all the doors or just one?

The code pertains to the entire deadlock circuit, which controls all doors. However, the issue may originate from one specific door’s actuator or wiring.

7. Can I fix the B3797 code myself?

If the issue is a simple wiring fault or loose connection, you may be able to fix it yourself. For complex problems like a faulty BCM, professional assistance is recommended.

8. How much does it cost to repair the B3797 code?

Repair costs vary, but replacing a door lock actuator typically costs $150-$300, while BCM repairs or replacements may cost $300-$1,000, depending on the model and labor rates.

9. Will the B3797 code affect my car’s safety?

Yes, a malfunctioning deadlock system can compromise the vehicle's security by leaving doors vulnerable to forced entry.
