Code B1341 GMC Description

The Instrument Panel Module (IPM) controls the HVAC door actuators to regulate the airflow through the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system. Each actuator is a 5-wire bi-directional electric motor that incorporates a feedback potentiometer. Ignition 3 voltage, low reference, control, 5-volt reference and position signal circuits enable the actuator to operate. The control circuit uses either a 0, 2.5, or 5-volt signal to command the actuator movement. When the actuator is at rest, the control circuit value is 2.5 volts. A 0 or 5-volt control signal commands the actuator movement in opposite directions. When the actuator shaft rotates, the potentiometer's adjustable contact changes the door position signal between 0-5 volts. The IPM converts the voltage values to count values where one volt is approximately equal to 51 counts. The IPM uses a range of 0-255 counts to index the actuator position. The door position signal voltage is converted to a 0-255 count range. When the module sets a commanded, or targeted value, the control signal is changed to either 0 or 5 volts depending upon the direction that the actuator needs to rotate to reach the commanded value. As the actuator shaft rotates the changing position signal is sent to the module. Once the position signal and the commanded value are the same, the module changes the control signal to 2.5 volts.

Frequently Asked Questions about B1341 GMC Code

1. What does the OBDII code B1341 mean on a GMC vehicle?

The B1341 code indicates an issue with the right air temperature actuator, which controls airflow temperature for the passenger side of the HVAC system.

2. What are the common symptoms of the B1341 code?

Symptoms include inconsistent or incorrect passenger-side air temperature, failure to switch between hot and cold air, or unusual noises from the HVAC system.

3. What causes the B1341 code to appear on a GMC?

Common causes include a faulty right air temperature actuator, wiring issues, a blown fuse, or an HVAC control module malfunction.

4. How do I diagnose the B1341 code?

Diagnose by scanning the vehicle with an OBDII tool, visually inspecting the actuator and wiring for damage, and testing the actuator's motor and electrical connections.

5. Can I drive my GMC with the B1341 code?

Yes, but you may experience discomfort due to improper air temperature control, especially in extreme weather conditions.

6. How do I fix the B1341 code on my GMC vehicle?

Fixes may include replacing the right air temperature actuator, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, or reprogramming or replacing the HVAC control module.

7. How much does it cost to repair the B1341 code?

Repair costs range from $100–$300 for parts and labor, depending on whether the actuator or other components need replacement.

8. Can I reset the B1341 code without repairing the issue?

You can clear the code temporarily with an OBDII scanner, but it will likely return unless the root cause is addressed.

9. How long does it take to replace a right air temperature actuator?

Replacement typically takes 1–2 hours, depending on the vehicle model and accessibility of the actuator.

10. Is the B1341 code specific to GMC vehicles?

While B1341 is commonly seen on GMCs, other manufacturers may use similar codes for HVAC actuator issues, but the exact meaning may differ.
