I own a 96 Olds 88 supreme and live in PA. I haven't needed emissions inspection in years because I am way under the 4K miles a year ( 20 miles this year ). CEL is on, Auto Trans Shift Solenoid code. Do I have to get this costly repair even if the car doesn't need the test? It looks like it would cost over $600 for a $20 part! Thanks for your help.

For some reason I cant reply? It says login, I do but it says its sending me an email to verify me?
Just wanted to clarify. I don't need emission test again because I only drove it 10 miles this year. So will they still fail me if I don't need it? Sorry if I'm confusing. and I never got an email saying I got an answer and I checked box to do so. Thanks.

P1864 TCC Solenoid electrical

The TCC is for the transmission convertor clutch, as long as this code condtion is present you would not have 4th gear, This is also a fuse protected solenoid, check the fuse and replace if open in the engine fuse box listed as CLG/FN/TCC fuse 5C which is a 10 amp fuse.To pass the emission test the CK ENG LT can not be on, this would be a emission violation, The purpose for the CK ENG LT is to protect the catalytic and catalytic is to protect the enviroment. As long as this code is present it is capable of suspending any other code that can be causing any more potential problems.
