I changed the cap, cleared the code, but both the message and the code reappeared a couple of days later. Can this be troubleshot fairly accurately without using dealer diag eq? I'm ok around cars, but need a feel for the complexity.

Vehicle: 2011, Volvo, S80, 3.2L N/A

It could also be caused by pinholes in the gastank gooseneck caused by rust if the filler tube is metal.Which is unlikely being it's a 2011, if it's a hose or poly tube it could be a loose clamp.
