I just had my plugs replaced on my 2005 Honda CR-V with 119828 miles. A few days later while driving in a parking lot the engine started running rough and the engine, VSA, and VSA activation indicator lights came on so I pulled over and turned the car off. When I restarted the car the lights did not come back on so I kept going. A couple of days later the same thing happened again so the next day I took it to advance auto to have the codes check and it came back with code P1009 . I checked the web and found several reasons for the problem so I'm not sure of my next step. I called my Honda dealer and they said they would have to run a diagnostic on it to give me an answer which will cost me $95.00, is this my best option does anyone know for sure what's causing the problem?

P1009 VTC advance malfunction

Changed the sparkplug? What type of sparkplugs are you using,? Did P0341 set? If this code is by itself, check the oil level, correct if neccessary. P1009 tends to be a very intermittent code condition, There is a VTC strainer that can be cleaned out. As long as P1009 is by itself this would be intermitttent, the best solution would be to use a TSB that Honda has produced for this code . TSB # 08-089 What Honda want done is to update the ECM , the ECM tends to misinterpet inputs as fault in the VTC system.
