At times when i slow down at a round about or while driving slowly in traffic, the car acts as though it was put neutral gear and doesn't respond as i press the accelerator. Then almost immediately, it engages a gear forcefully.

What follows this development is that the transmission between gear 1, 2 & 3 is forceful. Also the gear does not shift beyond gear 3.

If i park the car and turn off the engine, start the car after about 5 seconds, the transmission is restored to normal until i reach a round about, traffic or any condition that causes me to move and step on the brakes frequently, then the whole cycle starts all over.

The gear light indicator also blinks at different shift positions while driving, you have to look very closely to notice this.

I had the vehicle diagnosed and the following codes where printed for me:

1 - Fault Code: P1734(4506); Description: Shift Malfunction; Status: Temporary
2 - Fault Code: P0780(4501); Description: Shift Malfunction; Status: Temporary

Please what part needs to be replaced or how do i fix this problem.

Thank you for your kind assistance.

Vehicle: 2003, Honda, Accord 2.4L 4 Cylinder

Most likey the transmission needs to be replaced. If the problem was a solenoid there would not be physical action like forcefully engaging, or hard shifting and etc. Its cheaper just to get a used transmission install vs rebuilding it.
