If you gut the catalytic out,you loose the function of the EGR, The function of the EGR is to lower Nox, by reintroducing inert gases into the combustion chamber, Which in turn lower combustion temperature, without this you would end up with a hole in the piston. Will you increase MPG the answer is no. You will affect the performance of the MAF (Mass air flow),which monitor the EGR due to exhaust backpressure caused by a catalytic convertor.You are saving fuel even with a catalytic that is no longer functioning,
