About 3 weeks ago, I had the coil pack changed to try and resolve the check engine light issue. Shortly after and ever since the light has come back on and in the past 3 weeks, I have taken my car back to the mechanic and he has cleared code offering only 1 fix which was something about a plug?

I went back again on yesterday and was told that I need to leave it overnight so that he can start it for the first time which is when I notice the shake which calms after the car heats up and I start driving. The code also came back on in the morning but has also come back on while driving. Other than that the car is fine. Mechanic says he is getting the same cylinder 1 misfire code.

The thing is though the engine light went off a few hours after I left the shop. I started it up and the light is off. When I seen that, I stopped by dollar general and bought some fuel injector cleaner by STP as I read online this may be the cause.

There was also a mechanic on the isle with me who said after using the STP I could use 91% alcohol which should clean up most the water in my gas tank which may be causing the issue.

I didnt use the alcohol yet but I might buy some STP gas cleaner in a few days to use in the tank when I go out of town as I heard this will help the cleaner run through. I didnt run my car today but did go in the yard to start it and let it run a few minutes and the code did not come on. I also pumped the accelerator as well.

Having said all of this, could the problem have resolved itself??

Thanks, K.

Sounds like it will not resolve itself, its intermittent, misfire can be caused by  ignition wire or sparkplug or  fuel injector, engine valves, and even headgasket, You already replaced the coil pack thats good, its a start, If the misfire was a sparkplug or even a sparkplug wire, the misfire will be consistent, Anytime you get a misfire this is code "A" type which the ECM turns off the A/C,and even shuts down the fuel injector,in order to protect the catalytic,For a repeated misfire on the number 1 cylinder, a leak down test must be performed. That or cylinder misfire on number 1 cylinder will be come a hobby.

Thanks for responding!

So to confirm from your answer,

the more likely cause is NOT sparkplug/sparkplug wire because the misfire is NOT consistent, right?

Also, to some of the other possible causes I mentioned,

how likely is it to be the cause, i.e. water in tank, etc.?
